Government cont.
  • By using close government ties, including direct
credit and a strong labor effort, South Korea has
joined the trillion dollar club of the world
economies as of 2004. On the other hand, because
of a poor economy, North Korea has been estimated
that up to 2 million people have died since the
mid-1990s because of food shortages, caused by
    natural disasters and economic mismanagement

7
Government cont.
  • Because of poor human rights that the North Korea
government has in place, South Korea has been
pressured by international committees to sanction
North Korea, but South Korea has resisted
sanction and has pursued a sun-shine policy of
engagement, which involves fertilizer and rice to
help ease hunger in North Korea and help easy
tension between the North and South.
