• "Even if Joe was not there waiting for her,
  the change was bound to do her good. The morning
  road was like a new dress. That made her feel the
  apron tied around her waist. She untied it and
  flung it on a low bush beside the road and walked
  on , picking flowers and making a bouqet (p318).
  "The dramatic stages of Janie's life is like the
   metamorphosis of a butterfly. Before  her
  arranged marriage to Logan Janie was young
  ,curious, and free to roam around. When
  she married Logan she became trapped and
  entangled by false ideologies , that marriage
  itself possessed some magical power of romantic
  passion and love.Only to find out that what she
  yearned for left her unsatisfied and
  disappointed. Janie walking away from her
  marriage to Logan was symbolic.  "......the apron
  tied around her waist. She untied it and flung it
  on a low bush beside the road and walked on ." 
  Janie throwing the apron  was the shedding of the
  old self.   "The morning road was like a new
  dress."  Now Janie has completed her
  transformation by embracing the new self. This is
  what caused Janie to break out of her cocoon,
  fly away, and try to seek a better life . -
