Safety and Efficacy After Implantation of Kelman
Duet Versus Artisan Phakic IOL in High

PURPOSE To compare the efficacy and safety after
implantation of phakic lenses in patients with
high ametropias.
METHODS In this prospective study we included 15
patients from 20 to 40 years of age with a high
ametropias and stable visual acuity. 15 eyes
received implantation of the Kelman Duet
intraocular lens (IOL) and 15 eyes the Artisan
IOL. Follow up examinations were performed at one
day, one week, a month and three months
post-surgery. To evaluate the efficacy of we
measured uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best
corrected visual acuity (BCVA), endothelial cell
count, and contrast sensivity. For security
values we analyzed intra- and post-surgery
complications.

RESULTS

• In patients with Artisan, 95 demonstrates 20/80
  or worst before the surgery and after the surgery
  they reached 20/70 or better.
• In patients with Kellman Duet, 91.7
  demonstrates 20/80 or worst before the surgery
  and after the surgery they reached 20/70 or
  better.
• We can not found a reduction in endothelial cells
  count with both phakic lenses, howevere, Artisan
  lens shows more stability in cell count before
  and after surgery. (Artisan p 0.209 Kellman
  Duet p 0.72).

• CONCLUSION
• We confirm the efficacy and safety after
  implantation of phakic lenses in patients with
  high ametropias, improving visual acuity and more
  stability of endothelial cells.
