  some of the alarming issues identified in the
  Hong Kong IT Industry.

• The use of IT by SME remains low.
• Universities are experiencing difficulties in
  attracting talents into the engineering and IT
  related disciplines.

• Other economies with aggressive and
  well-positioned IT development strategies are
  recovering and growing at a higher and faster
  speed than Hong Kong.
• The IT Matters for Hong Kong (??????????????)
  campaign is jointly sponsored by four
  organizations with endorsement and strong support
  from our community, including 6 universities and
  26 trade and professional organizations.

Surveying over 50 IT companies in Hong Kong

• The IT industry is emerging from the bottom of
  the market but the outlook is still mixed
• Of those companies that are still in business,
  many are in fact expanding
• Salary trends for those who are still employed is
  also mixed

• Sales for majority of IT companies have increased
  from two years ago, possibly the bottom of the
  market
• However, there is a downward trend of prices for
  IT products and services
• This puts pressure on the IT industry, and wider
  IT adoption to create a larger market will be
  important for the industry to sustain

• Improve SME and Public IT Usage
• We believe
• SME must further adopt IT to stay competitive
• IT sector needs dynamic local demand to sustain
  and grow
• We will
• Encourage sectoral adoption of IT and e-commerce,
  e.g. eTravel Transformation
• Collaborate with funding scheme for digital
  opportunities
• Promote policies conducive to wider use of IT in
  all sectors of communities
• Conduct positive IT thinking sessions for
  students, parents and teachers

• Foster Pan-PRD and China Collaboration
• We believe
• IT sector must take advantage of Chinas
  advantage in labor supply and market size
• We should expand our market in Pan-PRD, and also
  work to bring Chinese IT companies to HK
• We will
• Build an Online Collaborative Partnership
  Platform to confirm Hong Kongs intermediary
  role
• Extend existing linkage between Hong Kong and
  Guangzhous IT Solution Directories
  (www.itsolution.org.hk and www.itsolution.org.cn)
  
• Call for friendlier government policies for
  market access

• IT sector must maximize our core competencies to
  find new international markets
• We can become the intermediary for Chinas
  growing software outsourcing industry

• Organize forums with Guangzhou software park to
  develop joint initiatives
• Join international outsourcing events in US,
  Europe and Japan
• Actively engage with Mainland authorities to
  define and promote Hong Kongs collaborative role
  for outsourcing business
• Further our IT sectors awareness of quality
  improvements for standards like CMMI
