Title: OUR AWESOME LORD
1OUR AWESOME LORD By Frank G. Tunstall
2Foreword Chapter One Lesson 1
The Incarnation Strategy
3The Song of Solomon
- is a poetic love story
- about courtship. It is
- also a great allegory
- about Israels Messiah
- and His love relation-
- ship with the children
- of God in His church.
4Philippians 25-11 is the singularly most
insightful summary in the Bible showing how Jesus
Christ triumphed over all foes and became the
great redeemer of all mankind. Hence, the author
has made it the theme of this book.
5Father Joseph Damien (1840-89)Missionary to
Hawaii

about the incarnation?
Joseph Damien 1840-1889
6 What does Jesus support system in the Trinity
say about your support system, as you mature in
Christ?
7The Birth of Jesus
The birth of Jesus was planned in eternity as a
sinless incarnation, and establishes the Deity of
Jesus Christ.
8How does what Thomas Aquinas gave up compare or
contrast with what Jesus surrendered?
Thomas Aquinas 1225-1274

- HIS GLORY
10JESUS ATTITUDE OR MINDSET In the Incarnation

arching attitude that explains the earthly life
of the Nazarene. That confidence is
foundational to His accomplishing the plan of
salvation.

- attitude toward His
- Father say about your

- your own salvation?
12 Chapter One Lesson 2
Lesson Two
The Incarnation Strategy
13 The Self-Emptying Strategy Making Himself
Nothing
- The significance of the kenosis, or this
self-emptying strategy, is that when the time
came, Jesus set aside the prerogatives of Deity
and took on the status of a slave. - What does this say to you about what you may have
to surrender to serve the spiritual needs of lost
and dying people?
14The fact that Jesus emptied Himself in this way
is the essence of implicit trust.
To what extent have you placed implicit trust in
Jesus Christ?
15Acts 1038
- God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy
Spirit and power, he went around doing good and
healing all who were under the power of the
devil, because God was with him. - How does this verse summarize the kenosis, or the
method by which Jesus did His ministry in His
incarnation?
16Jesus goal was not to coerce people to make the
right choice, but to show them so much love they
would realize their need and freely choose the
gift of eternal life.
17DEFINING AGAPE LOVE
- Servant is a cherished value in the Godhead,
while the concept of independence is not in the
divine vocabulary and character. Gods Son
stepped into time and space as the loving servant
of all (Philippians 25-7).
18DEFINING AGAPE LOVE, Cont.
- The term, agape, defined as the love of God,
expresses the core value of the Godhead. Grace is
its synonym in the Scriptures - What are some of the qualities of agape love the
author lists?
19DEFINING AGAPE LOVE, Cont.
- How are agape love and implicit trust linked?
- The world thinks of agape, or selfless love, as
being weak and the value system of losers. How
does the cross of Jesus show that to be a very
false conclusion?
20So many fathers go to their job every day, work
hard, bring their paychecks home, and give all of
it to their families, keeping very little for
themselves.
How are these fathers examples of agape love?
21THE HIGHEST GOAL OF CHRISTIAN MATURITY
- is for a believer to vest implicit trust in
the lowly Nazarene. That attitude is prerequisite
for working out ones salvation so that Christ
can be formed in you.
22- Why is Jesus Christ understood as the firstfruits
of Spirit filled men?
Why is Jesus Christ understood as the
firstfruits of Spirit filled men?
23Jesus made His strategy succeed by watching,
listening and talking with His Father, by His
total dependence on the Scriptures, and with His
active prayer life.
24Depending on the Old Testament Scriptures
- What does Jesus total knowledge of the
Scriptures say to you about your own habits of
Bible study?
25A Spirit-Guided Ability to Discern
Why does Jesus deserve the title of the perfect
judge?
26THE GREAT LESSON
- An attitude of implicit
- trust in God, that is
- anchored in the written
- Word,
- 2) seasoned with an active
- prayer life, and that
- 3) walks in the Spirit, is the highway to
successful - Christian living.
27- Based on your study in this chapter, how would
you summarize the incarnation strategy Jesus
followed, that began at His conception in Marys
womb? - A.
- B.
- C.
- D.
- E. etc.
28THE INCARNATION AS A PRINCIPLE OF LIFE
- The author believes in the virgin birth of Jesus
Christ as a historical event. - In addition, he believes in the incarnation as a
principle of life. What is meant by his use of
the term, incarnation principle?
29My lover thrust his hand through the
latch-opening my heart began to pound for him
(Song of Solomon 54).
How does that statement fit the message of
Chapter 1?
