Infinitives

• The infinitive is a verbal noun
• It is always indeclinable
• When it is preceded by a definite article, the
  article is always neuter singular and the case is
  determined by the function of the infinitive.
• It can have a D.O. and adverbial modifiers

• Aspect (No time significance whatsoever)

• Subject The Infinitive technically does not have
  a subject because it is not a finite verbal form
• A noun in the accusative case can act as if it
  were the subject of the infinitive

• Tense, voice, infinitive, lexical form, and
  inflected meaning

• Substantive- it will usually be preceded by the
  definite article (but not always).
• Translate with to and the verb

• Complementary- it will usually be used to
  complete a meaning to a finite verb
• Translate with to and the verb
• (also called verb of necessity)

• Articular infinitive and preposition
• When the infinitive is preceded by the article,
  it is called an articular infinitive
• Preposition will always precede infinitive and
  article- See 305-306)
