  • Electrostatic Association of Positive Head group
    with negatively charged cell membrane
  • Hydrophobic tail imparts hydrophobic character to
    cell surface

As molecules accumulate around the cell wall, a
hydrophobic coating develops that effectively
isolates the cell from its environment, disabling
cell nutrition, respiration, waste removal

36
Aetiology
  • Avian Influenza virus Highly contagious viral
infection which can cause 100 mortality in
birds. Can be spread through direct contact and
    indirectly through equipment
  • Canine Distemper virus- An RNA based virus which
causes initial fever and lack of appetite in
dogs. This can lead to vomiting and diaharrea and
    even death.
  • Citrus Canker- Highly contagious bacteria which
can cause citrus trees to defoliate and drop
    fruit prematurely
  • Mareks Disease- A virus which effects the
    central nervous system of chickens
  • Newcastle Disease-Viral infection in poultry
which causes coughing followed by effects on the
nervous system, can be passed on to humans.

37
Aetiology
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa- Gram negative bacteria
which can cause wound infections, meningitis,
    pneumonia and eye infections
  • Salmonella typhi- Gram negative rod spread by
consumption of contaminated food or inanimate
    objects. Cause of typhoid fever.
  • Shigella sonneii- Highly infectious gram negative
bacteria spread through unsanitary food handling
and contaminated water leading to Shigellosis
    (Dysentery)
  • Staphylococcus aureus- Gram positive bacteria
identified as a major cause of hospital acquired
    infections. Causes wound infections, septicaemia,
    meningitis and pneumonia

41
Summary of Use Concentrations
  • Can be used in on food contact surfaces in a
concentration range of 150 400 ppm active.
    (0.25-0.68 oz per US gallon)
  • Effective sanitisation of food surfaces in 60
    seconds using 400 ppm active.
  • Typical use concentration of 150 -200ppm active
    for non food contact surfaces
  • One -Step hospital disinfectant, virucide,
fungicide and sanitiser at 450 ppm active.
  • Effective against Xanthomonas axonopodis pv.
citri (Citrus Canker Disease) at 2000 ppm active.

42
Application
  • Dilute the SEPTOBAR 50 in water to give a 7.5
active product, this can be further diluted by
the end user depending upon the application.
  • Low pressure spraying
  • Fogging
  • Automatic washing
  • Immersion tanks
  • Foaming apparatus
  • Sponging
  • Brushing and mopping

43
Fogging Spetobar 50
  • Fogging Device Hatchery Room Sanitizer
    Directions
  • Remove all animals and feed from premises,
vehicles and enclosures. Remove all litter and
manure from floors, walls and surfaces of the
room to be treated. Empty all troughs, racks and
other feeding and watering appliances. Thoroughly
clean all surfaces with soap or detergent and
rinse with water. Close room off so fog is
confined to room to be treated. Mix two parts of
Septobar 50 to five parts water (1 gallon of
Septobar 50 to 2.5 gallons water). Insert the
nozzle of the fogger through a suitable opening
into the room. With the setting in maximum
output, for one minute for each 4000 cubic feet
of space in the room. Do not allow people to
contact or breathe this fog and do not enter
until the fog has settled (30 - 60 minutes after
    fogging is completed).

44
Summary
  • Broad spectrum blend of high efficacy quats
  • Readily diluted
  • Toxicological, environmental and regulatory
    support
  • Tolerance to hard water and organic load
  • Broad range of applications
