Revision of Quarantine 37Plants for Planting
  • Basic Premise of Current Q-37
  • Majority of plant taxa are enterable with only a
    port of entry inspection
  • Some plants for planting are further restricted
    by additional requirements
  • Pest risk analysis required only for certain
    types of importations
  • Q 37 update needed - plant material being
    imported has changed

  • All taxa that have not already entered the US
  • Only for taxa where reasonable indication of

    port of entry in lieu of phytosanitary
    certificate
  • OMB approved Final Rule 1/17/06, publication
    expected by end of January

  • Labeling must include the collector/shipper,
    country of origin, and scientific name
  • Maximum of 50 seeds of 1 taxon per packet or a
    maximum weight not to exceed 10 grams of seed of
    1 taxon per packet
  • Maximum of 50 seed packets per shipment

  • Free from soil, plant material, foreign matter,
    fruit or seed pods, living organisms
  • Must enter at prescribed inspection station
