What is toughened glass?
  • Definition
  • The toughened glass is a single-layer glass in
which a tension-spread system forms due to
conscious heat treatment. Because of this, the
mechanical resistance ability of the glass rises
    seven eight times.

4
Technical description
  • In both surfaces of the glass sheet there is
compression stress, which decreases along the
thickness of the glass sheet and in the centre it
forms tension stress. The compression and tension
stressed fields are separated from each other
    with neutral zones.
  • If the toughened glass is tried to be bent, first
the compression stress decreases on the pulled
surface and just after the tension stress will
    form, which leads to breakage.
  • As a result of this, the toughened glass has
bigger mechanical strength and hardness than a
    traditional float glass.

Mechanical parameters of toughened safety glass
  • Producible sizes (SZILÁNK)
  • Thickness (mm) 4 19
  • Minimum size (mm) 150 x 280 mm
  • Maximum size (mm) 2450 x 4500 mm
  • Physical properties
  • Weight 2,5 kg / m2 per mm (thickness)
  • Compressive strength 7 900 N / mm2
  • Bending strength 80 150 N / mm2
  • Heat resistance 200 C
  • Heat conduction 0,8 W/mK
  • Flexibility 7,0 x 104 N / mm2
  • Coefficient of expansion 9,0 x 10 6 K 1
  • e.g. 100 K heat difference approx. 1,0 mm / m

Fields of application
  • Glass canopies
  • Glass roofs
  • Glass stairs
  • Glass floors
  • Glass walls, doors without frames
  • Shower stalls
  • Glass strengthening ribs for glass walls
  • Load-bearing glass implements, load-bearing glass
    beams, glass coverings
  • Point-jointed facades
  • Glass solutions in interior decoration
    (pl.shelves, tables, displays)

Glass walls without frames
  • The toughened glass sheets, doors without frames
are produced for mainly indoor utilization,
because the meeting edges are grinded and there
    is a 2-7 mm-wide gap between them.
  • The doors can be
  • opening, swinging
  • sliding
  • folding
  • Many manufacturers produce fittings for
assembling of toughened glass sheets, such as
    SEVAX, DORMA, CASMA, GEZE, etc.
  • For installation of glass walls and doors without
frames we use catchers chosen by the customers.
