Title: Doing What Is Right In Your Own Eyes

1
Doing What Is Right In Your Own Eyes
  • The problem of being lead by our feelings and not
    Gods word.
  • Judges 171-6

2
Introduction
  • There is nothing new under the son, including
mans desire to do what is right in his own eyes
  • From the beginning. Gen. 36
  • As a society. Gen. 111-4
  • Even among Gods faithful (Abraham/Sarah). Gen.
    15-16

3
Introduction
  • In this lesson, we look at the following
  • How God revealed the awful condition of His
children for depending upon their own sense of
    right instead of His.
  • How our lives should be guided by Gods truths
which in turn create a true and abiding happiness
    in our lives.

4
Opinions That Get in the Way of Truth
  • Everyday, many callings themselves Christians
live for the Lord based upon their feelings.
  • I feel I think I believe
  • These statements basically have one common
thread they are not lead by the word of God, but
    their own thoughts (i.e. feelings).

5
Opinions That Get in the Way of Truth
  • Israel was guilty of this lifestyle that got in
their way of serving the Lord by faith. Jdgs.
    171-6
  • Micah and the young Levite. Judges. 17
  • Tribe of Dan. Judges 18
  • Benjamin and the nation of Israel. Judges. 19-21

6
Opinions That Get in the Way of Truth
  • Today is no different for many Christians
regarding Gods word. Cp. Pr. 1625

7
Opinions That Get in the Way of Truth
  • Salvation Matt. 2818-20 (Mk. 1615-16) Acts
    238, 836-38
  • Many trust their feelings and thus believe they
    are saved.
  • Yet, many refuse to believe what the scriptures
teach when they hear or read it.

8
Opinions That Get in the Way of Truth
  • Elders not needed. 1 Tim. 31-7, Tit. 15-9
  • Some biblically reject the need for elders
    saying such is abrogated today.1
  • Others will not teach such but state they are in
    favor of the voting method.
  • In essence they reject having a biblical
eldership from a doctrinal or practical
    standpoint.

Opinions That Get in the Way of Truth
  • Church of Christ title. Rom. 1616
  • Many (argue/argued doctrinally) Christians demand
that the title of the church can only be church
    of Christ.
  • Aside from this false demand for a correct
title that is exclusively church of Christ
(see 1 Cor. 12 among others) many are now lead
by their feelings that such is the only means of
    labeling a congregation of believers

10
Letting Truth Guide Our Feelings
  • Truth is absolute, it does not budge.
  • Truth comes from God Himself. Cp. Jn. 11 Jas.
    117
  • Truth comes through the scriptures the gospel.
    Rom. 1017 Col. 15 Eph. 113
  • Christians, under the authority of Christ, must
uphold His (revealed) truths. Gal. 16-10 2 Jn.
    19-11

11
Letting Truth Guide Our Feelings
  • The feelings we have serve as our barometer that
is either in harmony or contrary to His truths.
  • If we do well, obeying the truth brings joy to
    our lives. Acts 826-39
  • If we do not do well, sin lies at the door. Gen.
    44-13
  • And if we sin, we can repent and rejoice again.
    Lk. 1511-24

12
Conclusion
  • We saw the result of those who lived according to
their feelings doing what is right in their own
    eyes.
  • May our feelings be the direct result of a life
that adheres to Gods standard of righteousness
    truth.
