    the village lack of space
  • Underground parking is ok but costly
  • Multi-storey in towns may be acceptable

3
INFRASTRUCTURE TRANSPORTATION cont

communal parking loss of spaces in towns to
    provide extra parking
  • Flooding - Need to take account of this Coastal
    Flooding and Coastal erosion
  • No rural public transport within Fingal Service
provided by the North Fingal Rural Transport
  • People are isolated in rural areas
  • NFTI provides service to all age groups
    especially school students
  • Service for school children by mainstream is
    inadequate

    leagues
  • Parks need extra facilities such as cafes and
    Bars- Vandalism is an issue

7
ENTERPRISE EMPLOYMENT cont
  • Employment Technology should be promoted.
    Development of science a priority
  • All employment should be considered
  • Baldoyle Industrial Estate one exit/entrance is
in wrong place should not be in a residential
place. Access through Industrial Estate to Howth
    Junction is problematic

GENERAL DEVELOPMENT ISSUES
  • Sport Football matches cancelled due to
    unplayable pitch. Multi-purpose indoor centre
    should be developed
  • Sustainable Development Independent living is
not a reality for all disabled people. Grouped
Schemes work better, there will be a growth in
    need.
  • All housing to be fit for life, fit for purpose
  • Support needed for disabled people if they are to
    live in the community
  • Lack of service in Fingal Co Co area for disabled
people, their needs should be recognised
  • Growth in population will require additional
    services
  • Hindu Community Services need for place or
worship and cultural centre for Saturday
  • Zoning should include provision for place of
    worship

11
GENERAL DEVELOPMENT ISSUES Cont..
  • Provision for community centre to be used by
    religious groups
  • Need for weekend access to schools and shared use
of community facilities eg. Parking, storage
    and food preparation area
  • Width of roads in housing estates is an issue
    well facilitated in rural areas
  • National Marine Centre in Balbriggan can we
leverage greater support for Centre by offering
    shared facilities
  • Number of houses within Fingal has reached
capacity level in relation to the infrastructure
    available
  • Decline in levies from builders
  • Unoccupied houses in Ballyboughal
  • Lack of rural zoning within rural villages act as
disincentive to for sale of/occupancy of houses
  • House developers Park and ride bus service
  • Road size condition in rural areas

12
GENERAL DEVELOPMENT ISSUES cont
  • Nursing homes Get developers to build nursing
    homes
  • Better to get people live at home rather than a
    nursing home
  • New housing does not cater for the elderly or
disabled Not a complete society only for the
    young
  • Mixed housing types are required ie. Single
    storey units
  • Discrimination due to house types
  • Nursing homes to be located in urban areas
should not be in isolated rural areas.
  • More activity in the urban areas on the Continent
  • Community centres are often not in the community
not accessible to all Inner city has them
    where required such as Summerhill
  • The elderly are an afterthought
  • Facilities and services should be located where
    required

13
GENERAL DEVELOPMENT ISSUES cont
  • Place of worship Need a shared facility for
worship Temple could be a tourist facility
Need for place of worship will develop over time.
  • ABCD Assets Based Community Development. There
is a need to know what we have so we can get what
we need The most sustainable communities
    develop from inside out
  • Open space Grass in housing estates works well
    kick about areas popular
  • Big parks nothing to do not secure more
policing. Need events to liven them up
  • Father Collins Park very busy lots of
activity easy to police and accessible
  • Running in groups for safety reason
  • Should be less pitches but better used.

14
GENERAL DEVELOPMENT ISSUES cont
  • Music festivals, car boot sales should be
encouraged as lack of activity encourages
    anti-social behaviour
  • Rural residents cannot afford an urban house
  • Provision of zoning with rural areas
    problematical

HERITAGE ISSUES
  • No National Marine Centre (Isle of Sky,
    Portsmouth and Cornwall)
  • Oil spill no national plan
  • Climate change has brought new challenges
  • Basking sharks have appeared in Irish waters
  • Fish stock must think about sustainability
  • Swords Estuary monitoring of bird life should
encouraged in partnership with Bird Watch Ireland
  • Cleaning up of beaches needed
  • Incrased provision of land along the coast for
    access and footpaths
  • Managing back garden space
  • Natural Heritage Need to protect future and
    natural heritage
  • Green Belts Need to protect these they are
    important

23
HERITAGE ISSUES cont
  • Strategic need not just to stop towns meeting
Need to be clearly identified and not serviced
  • Built Heritage Need to look after this and not
build close to these can get vandalised. Casino
in Malahide an example of loss of an important
    feature
  • Proper infrastructure would stop indisciminate
    development
  • Impact of large developments in towns and
villages ie. Shopping centre - often negative
    as character is lost
  • Provision of bus service to Ardgillan/Skerries
    Mills needed
  • Cycleways/Walkways along the canal
  • Protect what is already there exploit what we
have ie. Ardgillan, Newbridge and Malahide

24
HERITAGE ISSUES cont
  • There is an abundance of heritage in Fingal
  • Leverage Four Knocks feature
  • Increase provision of Seamus Ennis type centre
  • Leverage Rush theatre
  • We have so much
  • Heritage is important but cant be at expense
    of today or tomorrow
  • Strategy to identify future Need to be flagged
    prior to development

CROSS CUTTING THEMES
  • Recycling is a good idea Bin system works well
Could be a problem if more are introduced ie.
    Bottle bins
  • Design Considered to be important. Character
needs to be protected Northwood, Santry
considered to be a good example of design adds
    pride to a community.
  • Heritage and features of the county are a selling
    point to business
  • Social inclusion smaller is best Easier to
    support people
  • Dublin 15 lack of facilities, small parks and
    lack of schools
  • Part V Housing Good idea. Better than old
Council Housing schemes and rent to by schemes
    are good
  • Sustainable development is the way need to
consider more safe cycling less need to travel
a balance Steady and secure growth

29
CROSS CUTTING THEMES cont
  • Encourage development which as long term gain
  • Make public transport attractive to use
  • Cycle lanes and the provision of short term
    rental bicycles should be encouraged
  • Housing should not be just social housing
need proper integration of house types
  • Social integration Empty estates would be
best to fill them with people who need housing
but that can pose problems through an over
    dominance of one group.
  • Subsidies for adaption to Climate change ie.
    insulations etc.
  • Adaption of roundabout frequency to
encourage better energy need and efficiency

30
CROSS CUTTING THEMES cont
  • Brown , Green and Black bins seem to work well
  • Ghettos developing in Balbriggan area
    preventing integration of social groups
