Well whats the craic?
FERDINAND MAGELLAN
ME AND MY CHICKENS
MY JOURNEY AROUND THE WORLD
2Why did I go?
While I was in the service of the Spanish King
and Queen, I tried to find a westward route to
the Spice Islands of Indonesia. I would be
rewarded if I found the westward route. I was
funded by the Spanish Crown and I left on August
10, 1519. With five ships under my command (270
crew members) Trinidad, San Antonio,
Concepción, Victoria, and Santiago we left
Seville and travelled from the Guadalquivir River
to Sanlúcar de Barramed.

Died Place April 27, 1521 Cebu, Phillipines
Known for First man to lead a voyage around the world, found the Magellanic Straits
4Im Ferdinand Magellan and Tommy chose me because
- I was the first person to sail around the world.
I didnt actually make it as I died in the Battle
of Mactan. - I wasnt scared of falling off the world that
everyone thought was flat. - I spent three years on a boat that was very
challenging. - I have a cool beard.
- Everybody else in his class was doing that nerd
Christopher Columbus.
I LIKE CHICKENS
5The skills I needed for my journey around the
world
- I had to be a good sailor and not get seasick,
like this poor fella. - I had to be good at working with others, like my
crew. - I had to be good at giving out fair rations to my
crew. - I had to have good map reading skills and be able
to use a compass
SUPER CHICKEN
6The obstacles I faced during my journey.
- The weather was very tough as it was changing
frequently throughout my journey. - Scurvy among the crew was a problem because of
malnutrition. I was also very tired at times
throughout my journey. Many of my crew died as a
result of scurvy but I saved as many as I could. - I had to make difficult decisions as the route
we were trying to find had never been discovered
before. - I had to ration my food to my crew as there was
very little.
ITS A TURKEY! GET HIM
HMM
7Conclusion
- Ferdinand Magellan became the first person to
lead an expedition across the Pacific Ocean. This
was also the first successful attempt to
circumnavigate the Earth in history. Although he
did not complete the entire voyage (he was killed
during the Battle of Mactan in the Philippines).
He was also the first European to reach the place
which is now known as the Philippines, which was
unknown to the west of the world before his
discovery.
