Background

• Purpose To expand the capabilities of public
  health to participate in health information
  exchange (HIE).
• Goal To Create an automated disease reporting
  system by leveraging HIE systems in the region.
• Objectives 1) Develop the technology to capture
  reportable results in RHIO databases 2) Enhance
  RHIO infrastructure 3) Establish
  dialogue between public health and clinical
  stakeholders 4) Create a public health database.

Greater Cincinnati ADRS Pilot

• Enteric Diseases and STDs were targeted in the
  ADRS pilot.
• An agent identifies (Reportable Disease) in the
  OBX field within the HL7 message.
• Result routed to appropriate health jurisdiction
  in real-time.

• In SW Ohio, 43 of enteric diseases reported by
  pilot labs have also been captured in ADRS
• ADRS vs. Conventional System mean 3.0 (0.1-5.8)
  days faster median 2.0 days faster
