• 3/1 mentally ill in jail/hospital
• The city jail is always the largest dispenser of
  psych meds in town.
• Few if any big state hospitals (Springfield 1950)
  left.
• No long term rich folks psychoanalytical
  hospitals left ( Chestnut Lodge is gone Shep.
  Pratt has changed)

• General Hospitals with poor people psych units
  dramatically increased.
• Length of stay dramatically decreased.
• Quality of meds dramatically increased.
• Professionalism of State Hospital Dr.s
  dramatically increased.
• Development of innovative community models
  dramatically increased ( group homes etc, day
  programs etc. crisis intervention teams etc.)

• Hell hole hotels increased
• Homelessness increased.
• Self medication increased (crack epidemic?)
• Regulator type advocates decreased.
• Civil Rights type advocates same.
• Family member advocates increased
• decreased I think
