- In early 2007 EDS Australia NZ made a
commitment to reduce our carbon use by 25 over
the next 3 years. And launched our EDS Go for
Green program
5- EDS Go for Green program looks at 3 key areas
within our organisation - Green Service Offerings will allow EDS
customers to reduce their impact on the
environment. - Quality and Productivity increase productivity
and efficiency whilst reducing EDS ecological
foot print. - Our employees provide an offset scheme, CO2
calculator and awareness to address employees
own private carbon usage - We are focusing on areas such as power usage,
travel, waste water, as well as the products
and services we deliver.
6How ?
- EDS are working with three energy management
experts to achieve our goal. - Energetics will baseline and monitor EDS carbon
emissions in both Australia and New Zealand. - CO2 Australia will be Australias carbon offset
credit partner. - NZ Carbon Exchange will be New Zealands carbon
offset provider. - Offset credit partners carry out certified
programs which benefit the environment, like the
planting of trees, land fill projects, hydro
schemes.
7What are we doing to reduce our environmental
footprint now?
- Standardise waste management and recycling across
all EDS offices and data centres - Continue to consolidate our real estate footprint
in New Zealand and Australia Head Office in The
Bond - Lowering electricity use through numerous
initiatives - consolidation of printers/data
centres - Reducing domestic travel by 30 percent within
ANZ through improved travel management and
videoconferencing
8Travel reduce by 30
As reported in The Beat a travel business
newsletter Environmental protection is squarely
on the list of critical issues for the business
travel industry as companies no less influential
than ABB, Cisco and EDS have begun taking action.
ABB favors rail over auto or air travel. Cisco is
trying to cut its travel budget by 100 million,
partly through investments in remote
conferencing. EDS plans to replace most
inter-office travel in Australia and New Zealand
with videoconferencing, cutting domestic flights
by up to 30 percent. republished with permission

9EDS Travel Management
- EDS has a strong global travel program.
- In 2006, EDS Australia travelled
- Domestic trips 4,460
- International trips 1,350
- To meet our 30 target, we will need to reduce
domestic and Trans-Tasman trips by over 1,300 - We understand that travel is necessary within our
business. - We need to provide reliable alternatives and
drive behavioural change to reduce non-essential
travel. - Offset program/greener suppliers to help the
reduce our impact on the environment when we do.
10Video Conferencing
- EDS have invested in new state of the art high
definition Video Conferencing system in 7
locations across Australia and 2 locations in New
Zealand. - The video conferencing system also aligns to our
objective to improve our employees' work/life
balance, and provide 'face to face' communication
without the need for travel.
11Behavioural changes
- Travel restrictions are in place over June to
drive behavioural change and maximise the return
on the video conferencing investment. - e-mails and regular Go for Green updates sent
to remind employees of our goals, achievements,
updated CO2 targets - Travel reporting and reminders to Mgt
12Partnering with Green Suppliers
- EDS is focusing on partnering with green
suppliers to achieve our targets. - Amex Card introducing e-statements soon will
be a requirement to subscribe. - Hertz have a green fleet of hybrid vehicle that
is now the EDS standard category - Airline offset program being considered
- Hotels include in upcoming RFP
13Travel RFPs
- Questions to be included
- Do you have an offset program?
- What is your companys green statement or
policy? - Do we have environmental objectives targets,
and how are they measured? - Environmental factors will rank highly in the
decision making process
14Green Benefits
- EDS strives to be a Greener supplier for our
customers. - EDS Aus/NZ are leading the way to a greener EDS
globally. - By focussing on Green questions in RFP, we are
hoping to encourage suppliers towards more
sustainable travel. - Meeting our Go for Green targets will mean
financial benefits to our bottom line as well as
to the environment.
15Conclusion
- Global warming is a global issue and requires a
global response. - Our Go for Green program is a small step
towards this. - We hope all companies worldwide will view this as
a shared responsibility and act. - Collectively we can make a cleaner, greener world
for future generations.
