Mt. Everest
  • The highest mountain in the world
  • 29, 028 feet high
  • Part of the Himalaya Mountain Range
  • Summit first reached in 1953.
  • 700 people have reached the top
  • 150 people have died trying to reach the peak

Great Barrier Reef
  • Located in off the Northeastern Coast of
    Australia
  • Largest spanning natural wonder more than 2000
    feet
  • The most fragile natural wonder
  • Home to thousands of species of plants and
    animals
  • Has snared many ships, including Cooks Endeavor
    in 1770

Grand Canyon
  • Located in the Arizona desert in the U.S.A.
  • The largest gorge in the world at 290 miles long
  • It is 10 miles wide.
  • Was discovered while the Spanish explorers were
    searching for Cities of Gold

Victoria Falls
  • Located in Africa on the Zambezi River
  • The water drops over a 328 feet cliff.
  • The falls are 1.25 miles wide
  • Discovered in 1855 by the British
  • Named after the British Queen Victoria

  • Located on the East Coast of Brazil
  • Name stands for River of January in honor of
    the month during which the Portuguese explorers
    arrived
  • Thought to be the mouth of a river, but it is not

Paricutin Volcano
  • Located in a Mexican Cornfield, 200 miles west of
    Mexico City
  • Named after the city that it destroyed when it
    erupted
  • First erupted in 1943 and has been dormant since
    1952

Northern Lights
  • Best seen in the northernmost lands of
    Scandinavia
  • Caused by particles in a solar wind interacting
    with Earths magnetic field
  • Almost never seen during the day
  • Forms a 2,000 mile wide oval above the magnetic
    North Pole
  • Seen each and every night
