Getting Started
  • To open MarcEdit, simply click on the MarcEdit
    Icon on your Desktop or select MarcEdit from
    Start/Programs/MarcEdit.
  • When MarcEdit opens, it will look like the
    picture below.

Opening the MarcEditor
  • The MarcEditor can be accessed from two
    locations. The first by selecting the File/MARC
    Tools option in the menu and the second by
    selecting the MarcEditor Icon on the main screen.

  • For the purposes of this tutorial, please select
    example1.mrk. This file is located at the
    following location (using the default
    installation) c\program files\marcedit\examples\
    example1.mrk. If you have another file that you
    would like to use for the purpose of this
    tutorial, feel free to use that file instead.
  • Opening the file
  • Either select File/Open from the Menu
  • Or click on the following icon

Initializing the Delete Field Dialog
  • The Delete Field function can be initialized by
    clicking on the Tools/Delete Field Menu option.

Delete Field Dialog Description
  • The Delete field dialog has one arguments
  • Select Field This is the field that you would
    like to Delete.
  • Please note The Field Data text box has been
    grayed out and disabled because this argument is
    not currently in use by this function.

Making the Changes
To globally delete a field, select the field to
be deleted, and click the Delete Field button.
When the changes have been made, the program will
report the number of fields deleted.

    remake MarcEdits mnemonic file format back into
    MARC to be loading by most electronic catalogs.
