What is Evonik doing?
  • We are participating in the NMSP
  • We will provide information though our
    participation in the Basic Program
  • We are working with peer companies through
    industry groups
  • We will be providing data through the NMSP that
    will inform EPA about what is really in the
    marketplace
  • Showing that some materials thought to be
    nanoscale are not
  • Learning from other participants
  • Demonstrating good Product Stewardship
  • Supporting other voluntary EPA programs such as
    HPV, SPP/Montebello and ChAMP

Why should you participate in the NMSP?
  • Help inform EPA about what is really in the
    marketplace
  • Learn from other participants
  • Its easy! Send in what you have to participate
    in the Basic Program
  • Its secure. CBI can be protected
  • Demonstrate good Product Stewardship
  • Provide evidence that voluntary programs work.
  • Participation can be used in your companys
    marketing efforts
  • Help show what information may not be needed by
    regulators
  • Transparency, transparency, transparency!

If we dont participate in NMSP?
  • EPA will not be able to quickly access
    information needed to support existing or develop
    new science and fact-based programs.
  • Provide evidence that voluntary programs dont
    work and that regulatory programs are needed.
  • Public confidence in nanotechnology could erode
  • Marketing nano-enabled products could become more
    difficult
  • EPA can ultimately get the same information using
    authorities under TSCA Sections 4, 5 and 8 but
    these processes are more expensive, time
    consuming and burdensome.
