Status of Inland Bays PCS
  • Draft completed by DNREC and under Divisional
    review completed by mid-September 04
  • DNREC is reviewing performance standards for
    on-site wastewater systems (a Tributary Action
    Team recommendation)
  • Compliance/Inspection program for septic tanks
    holding tanks was initiated staff hired (another
    Tributary Action Team recommendation)

Little Assawoman Bay Efforts
  • PINE (Poultry Integrators Nutrient Effort)
    development of a model watershed
  • Watershed Coordinator hired in June (1st in
    Delaware!)- Josh Thompson
  • 1) Nutrient management survey 2) Comprehensive
    ecological assessment3) Strategic watershed
    plan
  • Stop over and speak with Josh about some of his
    work!

  • Site selection wasnt compatible with efforts
    (drainage area was very large) advised to
    consider areas upstream
  • Team member David Rickards proposed a restoration
    project on his property

  • Interest was waning
  • Reenergize Tributary Action Team membership and
    attract new participants
  • Relocate meetings to Little Assawoman Bay
    watershed?
  • Advertised and promoted meetings (fliers, press
    releases, calendar announcements, etc.)
  • Result Even poorer attendance

  • Meetings returned to tried and true locations
  • Started as three separate teams Return to three

  • Only 6-10 people per meeting divided we fall
  • DNREC advised staying the course and
    maintaining single team identity

Volunteer Leadership
  • Bottom-up, team directed effort
  • Center for the Inland Bays has controlled the
    structure, direction, focus, scheduling, etc.
  • Can we get members to assume leadership?
  • What about an Executive Committee format (Chair
    and Vice-chair)?
  • And the Membership says Maintain the status quo

    with public workshop/public hearing and
    promulgation
  • Members serve as advisors and contacts (Bill
