- Drop-in Advising
- Stop by our office for a resume review, cover
letter critique or if you have a quick question
(10-15 minutes) - Tuesdays and Wednesdays 1-3 p.m.
- Tuesdays from 430-600 p.m (only during the
academic year when classes are in session) - Resume and Cover Letter Critique Service
- Drop off your resume cover letter at the career
services office - An advisor will review it and provide written
feedback - Pick it up after 2 business days
- Also check out the handouts samples in our
office and on our website

- Job Fairs and Workshops
- Job fairs, career related events, workshops and
conferences are excellent ways to network with
professionals! Visit our website for up-to-date
listings - Prospecting
- Prospecting letters are used to contact specific
individuals in an organization you are interested
in to take a look at your resume and learn more
about positions within the organization. This
will then help you better market yourself your
qualifications. - Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA)
- The Badger Career Network is a WAA site where
UW-Madison alumni who are willing to be contacted
by you post their names and contact information.
This service provide students with alumni
connections based on either location or current

- Developing a personal network through making
contacts with the people you know (and the people

- Their primary purpose is to provide news and
career information related to a specific
profession or professional area. They often
address current issues, and important
developments in the field. - TIP The internet is an excellent source for
directories of professional associations and
most associations have regional chapters. - Volunteering
- Through volunteer work, you can gain first-hand
knowledge/experience in your field, establish
yourself in a professional network and become
involved in relevant projects. - TIP Volunteering is an excellent way to make
contacts in your field and find out about job
openings before they become known to the public.
