Charter

• Foster the development of positions on emerging
  space system issues
• Technical, operational, and economic feasibility
  of current and proposed space policy
• Major issues regarding complete space systems
• The content and quality of education in space
  systems engineering
• SSTC works with other AIAA committees regarding
  related technologies, disciplines, meetings,
  papers, and reports

• Approximately 35 professional individuals
  representing
• Government
• Industry
• Academia
• Quarterly 1 1/2 day meetings combining technical
  interchange with issue debate
• TC work performed in 8 subcommittees
• Policy - develops positions on key issues,
  provides congressional liaison
• Education - foster educational outreach, sponsors
  educational design competitions
• Awards - supports nomination and selection of
  award recipients for 3 major awards
• Membership - ensures quality and quantity of
  membership
• Publications - sponsors publications, to include
  annual article
• Conferences - coordinates TC role in major
  conferences
• Planetary Defense - advocates enhancing ability
  to detect Near Earth Objects
• Space Science Astronomy provides science
  input to engineering organization,gives space
  science award, writes white papers, organizes
  science track for space defense conference
• Positions established within SSTC are without
  company/organizational affiliation
• Positions communicated via a variety of means
• Aerospace American Articles, Congressional
  Visits, SSTC web site, AIAA or SSTC Position
  Papers, etc.

  international import/export, Need for Responsive
  Space
• Developed White Papers
• SSTC members presented to members of Congress
  their staff
• Distinguished Speakers Day -
• Joint meeting with Space Transportation TC
• Speakers from Congress and Administration present
  perspectives on the future
• Conferences (Authors, session chairs, track
  chairs)
• Co-sponsored first-ever Responsive Space
  Conference with LA Section
• Responsible for Space 2003 Track on Orbital
  Systems Operations
• Tours of Ball Aerospace Briefings on current DoD
  NASA space experiments
• Technical resource mentors for the University
  Nanosatellite Program
