Background Research
  • Several researches indicate that there is the
difference between archaeological sites in inland
    areas and coastal areas.
  • While an ecosystem in inland is characterized by
different kinds of plant food exploitation tools,
a coastal ecosystem is characterized by different
kinds of fishing equipment, and secondary tools
    for food resource (Akazawa 78).
  • Paleodiet analysis suggests that there was the
difference between coastal and inland population
    in food resources (Chisholm 1986).
  • There is an assumption that hunter-gatherers were
likely to use rivers to move.

Purpose
  • My purpose is to clarify some differences between
archaeological sites in coastal areas and inland
areas along the Fraser River. (e.g. location,
elevation, size of features, and kinds of
    artifacts.)

    download information about archaeological sites
    in British Columbia.
  • Department of Anthropology at UBC has an
authorization to gain an access to RAAD.

4
RAAD
Download a site report a local copy of the
site report in either csv or pdf format

data in shapefile format
5
Method
  • Data from RAAD
  • Stream data and DEM data from UBC library,
Integrated Land Management Bureau, and Ministry
of Sustainable Resource Management, BC Government
  • Combine those data, make a map, and testify the
    hypothesis
