Overview of the Canadian Sector

• 7 secondary aluminium smelting facilities in
  Canada
• Aluminium scrap such as dross, used beverage cans
  and automotive parts are recycled
• The typical process involves thermal
  pre-treatment, melting, holding and degassing
• Control techniques include pre-sorting/cleaning
  of feed material, effective process control, fume
  and gas collection, high efficiency dust removal,
  afterburners and quenching

• Total 2006 sector releases
• Dioxins and Furans emissions were 1.02 g TEQ (ET)
  (only reported by 2 facilities)
• HCB emissions were not reported
