Title: Mrs' Eubanks Kindergarten Class Science Project

1
Mrs. Eubanks Kindergarten Class Science Project
  • The Earths Gravitational Pull

2
The Question
  • Do you think the amount of marbles in each bag
will determine or play a role in how fast the
bags will fall to the ground?

3
The Students Response
  • After counting out the number of marbles in each
bag, The students were asked, What do you think
will happen when I drop these two bags on the
    floor?
  • They will pop.
  • They will roll around.
  • The bag with 10 will drop first.
  • The bag with 10 is heavier.
  • The bag with 5 will drop last, because it is
    lighter.

4
The Hypothesis
  • We think that the Ziploc bag with more marbles
will fall faster because it is heavier.

5
The Experiment
  • The bag on the right contains five (5) marbles.
  • The bag on the left contains more than five
    marbles.
  • Both bags were dropped at the same time.

6
The Purpose
  • The purpose of this project is to see if the
number of marbles in each bag has an affect on
the speed at which they will hit the floor when
    dropped from the same height.

7
Variables and Constants
  • Manipulated Variable
  • The amount of marbles in Ziploc bag number two.

  • Constants
  • The amount of marbles in Ziploc bag number one.
  • The size of the Ziploc bags.
  • The height from which bag number one and bag
number two are dropped is the same.

8
The Procedure
  • Objective
  • The class tested to see if the amount of marbles
would effect the rate of speed at which they
    would hit the floor
  • Materials
  • 2 sandwich size Ziploc bags
  • Standard size marbles

9
The Results
  • Both bags landed at the exact same time on each
    occasion

10
The Data
11
Scientific Statement
As a result of our three experimental drops, the
class discovered that each bag struck the ground
at the same speed due to the Earths
gravitational pull. Thus we proved our
hypothesis to be incorrect.
12
Conclusion
  • The data collected did not support the original
hypothesis. The bags fell at the same speed each
time the they were dropped. We discovered that
the amount of marbles in each bag had no effect
on the speed at which they fell. The bags were
pulled to the floor at the same speed because of
    the Earths gravitational pull.

13
Our Science Project
  • We had a really great time learning about the
Earths gravitational pull. Science is so much
    fun! We love science.
