Title: Characterization of Rollagons

1
Characterization of Rollagons
  • Maneuverability - one point for ditches, trees,
    turning, and standing objects
  • Effectiveness - feasible land propulsion system
  • Transition - around 1 minute from water system
to land system possible interference from rocks
or objects on the ocean bottom
  • External force effect - waves and wind could
effect our hydraulic boons possibility of
    foreign objects
  • Size/deck arrangements - rollagons would take up
    roughly half of deck space
  • Maintenance - would not need any significant
    amount of maintenance.
  • Well deck storage - the rollagons do not inhibit
the vehicle from fitting in the boat
  • Noise/vibration - rollagons will be moderately
    quiet
  • Technology risk - not proven on an ACV at this
    moment
  • Ease of acquisition/manufacturability - the size
of rollagon that we would need for the ACV would
be much larger than any of us are familiar with

2
Trade-off Requirements
  • Maneuverability - rocks, ditches, trees, turning,
standing objects 2 points for each (subtract
    from 10)
  • Effectiveness - 1 or 10 (yes or no)
  • Transition - 1/2 point for every 15 seconds of
transition 1 point for each obstacle sand bar,
    well deck, rocks, waves
  • External Force Effect - waves, wind, rain,
current, foreign object damage 2 points for
    each
  • Weight - of the system divided by the weight of
    the vehicle
  • Power - power required for the propulsion system
  • Size/Deck Arrangements - foot print area (on
deck) divided by available deck area Available
    deck whole deck-cargo deck-machinery

Trade-off Requirements
  • Maintenance - 1, 5, 10 (1little regular
    maintenance bike 5moderate maintenance
    car 10significant maintenance airplane)
  • Well deck storage - yes or no (able to fit into
    the boat storage)
  • Cost - the price of the propulsion system
  • Noise/Vibration - 1, 5, 10 (1little noise
    computer 5moderate noise loud
    10significant noise ear protection)
  • Technology Risk - 1, 5, 10 (1proven on ACV
5Not proven on ACV, but used elsewhere
    10untested)
  • Ease of acquisition/Manufacturability - 1, 5, 10
