Supply is the acquiring, managing, receiving,
storing, and issuing all classes of supply,
except Class VIII, required to equip and sustain
Army forces
6General Supply Support Basics
- Supplies will be tailored and packaged for
specific supported units based on a specific time
and location - Reliance on throughput
- Supplies packaged based on type of unit and
mission - Distribution based instead of supply point based
7Supply Planning Considerations
- Initial Requirements Determination
- Fill shortages in the initial issue
(TOE/TDA/UBL) - Status of authorized supplies
- Pre-deployment requirement/status
- Replacement and Consumption Requirements

14Supply Services Cell, BSB SPO
Sup SvcCell
- Forecasts and monitors the distribution of
supplies within the brigade - Monitors subsistence supply, storage, and
distribution operations in subordinate units - Determines material handling equipment MHE
requirements to support operations - Analyzes data and reports to determine efficiency
of operations, conformance to standards, and
trends

16Supply Platoon, Distribution Co, BSB
Provides the brigade a single source for all
supply (less Class I (water), III (bulk), and
VIII (medical)) operations. The supply platoon
maintains a mobile storage capability.
Supply Platoon Mission Provides Class I, II,
III (P), IV, V, VI, VII, and IX support to the
Bde Receives, stores, issues, and transloads
approximately 29 ST of Classes I, II, III (P), IV
(barrier material only) and CL VII supplies
daily Stores the third combat load for supported
units and provides these supplies to the forward
supported FSCs Carries the 2d and 3rd combat
loads for the brigade troops battalion (BTB) and
the BSB Receives and distributes, in conjunction
with the Transportation Platoon, Class I and VI
from the field ration issue point Receives and
issues Class VII as required
17Forward Support Company, Distribution Platoon
- Key Tasks
- FSC CP and the BN S4 coordinate resupply site
and quantity - Provide supply status to BN S4
- FSC conducts resupply for maneuver companies
- FSCs are part of the BSB, but they locate in the
rear of each maneuver battalion
FSC
18Class I Principles
- Ice and water may be issued with Class I
- Class I supplies (meals, ready-to-eat (MREs)) are
configured into unit configured loads by the BSB
based on personnel strength reports. - These pallet-sized loads will be delivered as
logistics package (LOGPACs) by the BSBs
transportation platoon conducting combat
logistics patrols to the FSCs. - Operational rations (MREs) will be used until the
HBCT commander or higher determines that they are
no longer needed (i.e. commander determines A
rations are appropriate) or operational tempo
(OPTEMPO) permits a meal cycle. - The feeding standard is three quality meals each
day, with the capability to distribute, prepare,
and serve METT-TC dependent at least one Unitized
Group Ration-A (UGR-A) or UGR-Heat Serve
(UGR-HS) meal per day.
19Ration Cycle and Issue Cycle
WHAT
Ration Cycle
vs.
WHEN
Issue Cycle
2-2-3
- Forecasting
- During initial stages of a conflict, all rations
will be pushed forward (i.e. based on
projected strength). - Once battlefield stabilizes, will go to pull.
- The MRE is the primary packaged individual
operational ration.

21Field Ration Issue Point
- 3 Methods of Issue
- Truck to Truck (preferred method)
- Unit Pile (best method for control)
- Item Pile (used when time is limited for RIP
personnel) - Receipt/issue ideally in unit configured loads
built on CROPs or pallets
Standardized 20ft Container Feeds 400 Soldiers
for 10 Days
.
22Meal Types
- Meals Ready to Eat (MRE)
- Vegetarian/Halal Meals
- Humanitarian Daily Rations (HDR)
- Unitized Group Rations-Heat and Serve (UGR-HS)
- Unitized Group Rations-A (UGR-A)
- 21-Day CONOPS Menu
23Class I Operations
- The distribution company of the BSB will deliver
the configured loads to the in individual field
feeding sections. - The field feeding sections of the FSCs/BSB will
exchange their empty refrigerated containers,
CROPs, and any retrograde items for configured
loads of perishable and semi-perishable
subsistence in refrigerated containers and on
CROPs. - If the field feeding sections are being supported
by a RIP, cooks will come back to draw rations
from the RIP. - Three Soldiers (MOS 92A) with forklifts are
assigned as ration handlers in the general supply
section of the supply platoon in the distribution
company of the BSB.
24Water Both a Supply a Field Service
- Water requirements
- Water purification is a field service
- Potable vs Non-potable
- Testing unit, support unit, and medical
- Engineers
- EPW/detainees/others in AOR
Bottled Water is the preferred method for
distribution of water during the initial stages
of an operation.

44Supporting Offensive Operations
- Plan resupply operations based on anticipated
support needs of each subordinate unit - Integrate resupply operations with the scheme of
maneuver to ensure proper timing and to avoid
interfering with likely or planned maneuver
actions - Plan locations of resupply operations in covered
and concealed locations as far forward as
possible - Plan triggers for activating and deactivating
collection points and LRPs based on the HBCTs
movement and execution - Coordinate the locations, displacements, and
routes of sustainment assets and units to
maintain responsive support - Ensure the securing of MSRs is included in the
tactical plan - Consider using captured enemy supplies and
equipment
45Supporting Defensive Operations
- Avoid patterns of support to decrease
interdiction - Position the BSA and sustainment units as far to
the rear as possible, but close enough to be
responsive to maneuver units - Vary LOGPAC times and LRP locations
- Perform LOGPACs and other routine logistics
activities during limited visibility - Avoid positioning sustainment sites and units
along enemy ground/air avenues of approach,
templated artillery, NBC, or situational obstacle
strikes - Coordinate movement and terrain requirements with
maneuver plans and positioning of other units
such as artillery
46Supporting Defensive Operations (cont)
- Periodically move sustainment units based on the
threat level to decrease their vulnerability of
detection - Maximize the use of cover and concealment,
dispersion, and protection afforded by the
terrain - Push materials forward as soon as possible
- Maximize the use of Division or Corps sustainment
brigade throughput - Consider attaching additional transportation
assets to engineers to support the movement of
obstacle materials to construction sites
47Supporting Defensive Operations (cont)
Class IV/V (Obstacle Material)
- Identify locations of CAB, BTB, and other unit
Class IV/V points early by coordinating with the
supporting engineer battalion (if present) CAB
S4s or S3s - Ensure Class IV/V points are centrally located to
support directed obstacle belts, while remaining
concealed from the enemy - Coordinate sufficient manpower and
material-handling equipment at each Class IV and
V point - Closely track the usage of Class IV and maintain
the flexibility to shift materials
48Supporting Reconstitution and Stability Operations
- Local purchase
- Joint partners
- Coalition partners
- Avoid alienating various factions
49Supporting Urban Warfare
- Preconfigured LOGPACs are key
- Class I
- Rations
- Supplements
- Water
- Hygiene
- Class II
- Uniforms
- JSLIST
- Construction Material
- Increase Battery UBL
