History of Suspension Collection

• SRSD has had fields for Suspension data
• Formerly an additional paper form
• Elimination of paper form by relying on SRSD
  collection

Reasons For the SRSD Change

• IDEA Required Data
• Need to report multiple cases per student, if
  they happen
• Occurs for about 15 of reported students
• SRSD fields changed accordingly

• Drugs offense (Field 47c)
• One incident gt 10 days (Field 47d)
• Multiple short incidents totaling gt 10 days

Field Formats

• Report the number of INCIDENTS in the 47 fields
• Report all incidents for the school year
  2003-2004
• Future submissions will be count of incidents
  begun between School Start and Collection Date
• The EOY count includes the Spring count, which
  includes the Fall count
• Report YES / NO for Multiple Short Incidents
  (Field 48)

What happens if you use the OLD FORMAT?

• A Field Edit prohibits values in Field 49
  (character 428)

Difference Between Special Ed Suspension and
School Expulsion

• SRSD Fields 47-48 are Suspensions from Special Ed
• SRSD Fields 112 120 are for Expulsions from the
  School District
• A Special Ed student may have entries in both
  sections
• A non-Special Ed student can only have an entry
  in the Expulsion section

• A student is removed for bringing drugs to school
  and later has one long-term, 11 day suspension.
• Field 47c (drugs) Enter 1
• Field 47d (long term) Enter 1

• A student has two separate removals by a hearing
  officer due to likely injury to others
• Field 47a (injury) Enter 2

• A student has 4 suspensions, each less than 11
  days, but with a total of 15 days.
• Field 48 (multiple short term) - Enter 1
