Who is SAMHSA?
  • SAMHSA consists of three Centers and supporting
    Offices that administer and fund grant programs
    to support States efforts to address substance
    abuse and mental health issues.
  • Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS)
  • Leads Federal efforts to provide community-based
    services for adults with serious mental illnesses
    and children with serious emotional disturbances.
  • Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP)
  • Works to improve the quality of substance abuse
    prevention practices in every community,
    nationwide, through its discretionary grant
    programs.
  • Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT)
  • Promotes the quality and availability of
    community-based substance abuse treatment
    services for individuals and families who need
    them.

Incentive Grants
  • The grants provide seed money to help States
    develop the infrastructure needed to transform
    mental health services.
  • Seven States-Connecticut, Ohio, Oklahoma,
    Washington, Maryland, New Mexico, and Texashave
    been selected to receive a 2.7 to 3 million per
    year investment, over the next 5 years.
  • States will unite all of their State agencies
    behind a common vision of mental health.

    not be able to fully achieve coordination of
    patient care without complimentary and
    supporting activities on the part of Federal and
    state governments, health care purchasers,
    quality oversight organizations, and other
    organizations that shape the environment in
    which clinical care is delivered.
