Title: Bridget Riley
1Bridget Riley
2Movement in Squares
When Bridget Riley was in Italy she saw lots of
black and white tiled terraces. These inspired
this, her most famous work. She was caught in a
rain storm and noticed how the appearance of the
checkerboard squared tiles shifted and blurred as
the water streamed over them.
3How did she create the image?

5Op Art
- Op Art (short for optical art) is a form of
Abstract art, which uses repeated shapes to
create an illusion of movement on the page. - The illusion is created by a colour combination,
opposites are used together the human eye will
eventually mix up the opposites as one is looking
at the picture so as one looks at the picture it
seems to move or shimmer.
6Magic Colours
Butchers will display meat on a green background
to enhance the colour. Greengrocers serve oranges
in a blue tray to enhance the colour.
