• 4.1 million American Indian/Alaska Natives in the
  United States
• Over 60 live in urban areas
• 80,000 urban AI/AN in the Bay Area (5 counties)
  representing over 100 tribes
• Bay Area is 2nd largest concentration of AI/AN
  living in urban areas
• Population includes different genders, sexual
  preferences, and levels of acculturation

AI/AN and HIV/AIDS

• AI/AN males had the 2nd highest rate of HIV
  infection among all racial/ethnic groups from
  1996-2000
• San Francisco has the highest percentage of AI/AN
  with AIDS of all metropolitan areas
• 90 male, 9 female, 1 transgender
• Over 50 gay or bisexual, 15 IDU, 43 gay or
  bisexual males and IDU
