MMIB Speakers Bureau
The MMIB Speakers Bureau is a resource for
professional, civic, and community service
organizations in the Rio Grande Valley. Speakers
are available for club programs and other
occasions. Faculty are also available for more
complex and detailed workshops and training
seminars. Please contact the MMIB Speakers
Bureau to inquire about content possibilities.
Although no fees are required for service,
faculty are permitted to accept honorariums for
such community and professional service. The
greater the presentation content challenge, the
more appropriate is an honorarium.

  • Dr. Romero is an Assistant Professor of
    Management at the University of Texas - Pan
    American. His research interests include
    international management, organizational humor,
    Latin American leadership and entrepreneurship.
    He has published articles in the Journal of
    International Management, Journal of Management
    Research, Journal of Business and
    Entrepreneurship and the Academy of Management
    Executive. He is also on the editorial board of
    the New England Journal of Entrepreneurship and
    reviews for the Journal of International
    Management. Dr. Romero teaches strategy
    organizational behavior.

Bill Thompson, PhD

Dr. Bill Thompson is a professor of Marketing and
is the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the
College of Business Administration. Dr. Thompson
has been in college teaching for 35 years, having
taught 3 years in Tennessee, 14 years in
Louisiana, 2 years in Arkansas and the past 16
years Texas. Prior to entering education he
worked as a store manager for the Kroger Company
and as a researcher for the State of Tennessee
Planning Commission. He also is a veteran of the
cold war, having served in the US Army from 1959
thru 1962. He also has experience in developing
various websites, both for profit and
not-for-profit organizations. He has published a
number of articles in various marketing related
journals and has presented numerous professional
papers. He has been involved in the development
of the Winter Visitor Study for the past 12 years
and works with the Center for Tourism Research at
U.T.-Pan American.

David L. Sturges, PhD

Dr. Sturges is currently associate professor and
chair of the Department of Management, Marketing,
and International Business in the College of
Business Administration at the University of
Texas-Pan American. Prior to his joining UTPA
thirteen years ago, he taught at the University
of North Texas and the University of Oklahoma.
Before entering academics, Dr. Sturges' profession
al career spanned thirteen years in advertising
and public relations in the Dallas/Fort Worth
market. Dr. Sturges has published in
such academic resources as the Journal of
International Business Studies, the Management
Communication Quarterly, and the SAM Advanced
Management Journal.

Dr. LeMaster is an Associate Professor of
Management in the Department Of Management,
Marketing, and International Business in the
College of Business Administration at the
University of Texas-Pan American. Prior
to joining UTPA she taught at Texas A M
International University, and the University of
North Texas. Before entering academics, Dr.
LeMaster worked for eighteen years in managerial
positions in the healthcare industry. Dr.
LeMaster has published in varied academic and
practitioner journals and made many professional
presentations.

Penny Simpson, DBA

Dr. Simpson has taught various marketing subjects
for over ten years and currently teaches at the
University of Texas Pan American. During her
academic career she has received several teaching
awards and was previously selected as the David
D. Morgan United Teacher Associates Insurance
Company Endowed Professor. She serves on the
editorial board of Teaching Business Ethics and
has reviewed articles and books for several other
journals including the Journal of Business
Research and the Journal of the Academy of
Marketing Science. Results of her research has
been published in a number of journals including
the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of the
Academy of Market Science, Journal of Marketing
Channels, Journal of Business Research, and the
Journal of Marketing Education and in various
national and international conference
proceedings. She has also authored a chapter on
target marketing and segmentation in a marketing
principles textbook, Marketing Best Practices.
Dr. Simpson has a wide area of research
interests and publications, ranging from tourism,
promotion and channels of distribution. Dr.
Simpson also worked several years in management
in the savings and loan industry and has
consulted with a number of regional banks. Her
primary consulting activities are with the
development and success of small businesses in a
competitive environment.
