The remaining challenges

• CFCs based equipment is still widely available,
  for example, refrigerator, air conditioner in
  car, chiller
• Maintenance the existing equipment properly to
  reach its economic life time
• Servicing with CFCs
• Retrofitting
• Earlier retirement

Current situation in the Refrigeration Servicing
Sector

• Informal servicing sectors, technicians in most
  case are on-job trained, and its not easy to
  access all servicing workshops
• Many alternatives are in the market, perhaps with
  misleading labels. Some alternative could damage
  equipment
• Some technicians are lack of technology update
  and therefore improperly use alternatives
• The equipment owners have no proper knowledge to
  make any judgment

Interventions

• UNEP has been promoting good practices in the
  servicing sector for many years by organizing
  training programmes
• Other agencies have been working on the
  establishment of the recovery/recycling network
• Vocational training schools are encouraged to
  include good practices

Message to be delivered

• CFC would not be available after 2010 or would be
  getting expensive
• Be careful with the refrigerant you are charging
  to the equipment, especially alternatives
• Technicians should be encouraged to participate
  in the good practices training, and get the
  certificate, if the system is available
• Technicians certification system is good to
  promote the good practices

Message to be delivered

• End-users are encouraged to send their equipment
  to the certificated workshop
• Recovery/recycling is not only helping the ozone
  layer, but also benefit the climate
• Good practices are good approach to ensure
  servicing quality
• Alternatives for retrofit are available, but the
  proper procedure should be followed

• Do recovery/recycling whenever possible
• Avoid cross-contamination of refrigerant during
  recovery/recycling and/or recharging
• Dont top-up without leakage repair
• Charging with measurement
• Do good vacuum
