Trafikantens main objective is to ensure easy
access to the network of all PT operators in the
region, regardless of mode or company. Trafikante
n is organised as a Ltd company, set up in order
to brand a common Public Transport Information
and Customer Service in the central eastern
region of Norway on a B2C basis.

24 Real-time information - The SIS project
- Project for Real-time information covering all PT
in Oslo-Akershus has been launched - Joint initiative from regional PRA and PTA
- Pilot in 2004, roll-out in 2005-2006.
- Will cover all buses and trams in the region
- Real time information provided via SMS, Web and
WAP. - Variable signs in bus-shelters
- AVL Signal priority detection delay

25ITS attracts new customers
- The Norwegian Institute of Transport Economics
(TØI) has evaluated the information services of
Trafikanten - Interviews with 4000 citizens
- Analyzing the transport behaviour after the last
time they used Trafikantens services - 16 of all users would not have used PT without
the aid of Trafikanten (would have preferred car,
taxi or even not travelled) - 80 of all new customers buy single
tickets/coupons
26ITS in Public Transport pays
- 5,9 million customers handled in 2003
- 16 of these are new customers, equal to nearly 1
million new PT trips a year! - Total ticket revenue generated from new trips
adds to 16 million Euro a year - Total operational cost for the services of
Trafikanten is less than 2,8 million Euro - For each Euro in cost the operators get a return
in ticket revenue of 5,7 Euro!
