Why Am I Here???
  • 9th / 10th grade students with 2 or more D/F
    grades at 12 week grading period (this means
    youre in danger of failing at semester!!)
  • The purpose of today is to provide you with
    strategies for improving your grades.
  • We care! We want you to succeed!
  • The question is- do you want it?!

Reality Check!!
  • I can catch up later.
  • I dont need a diploma.

The Value of a HS Education
  • Lifetime Earnings-
  • without a HS diploma 600,000
  • with a HS diploma 1,100,000
  • Thats a difference of Half a MILLION
    dollars!!
  • You earn 625 per day you spend in classCan you
    really afford to lose out on this

You are NOT your parents!
  • Times have changed!
  • It used to be easier to find jobs without college
    or HS diplomaNOT ANYMORE!!
  • Need to earn 24/hr at job to afford a one
    bedroom apt. in OC. (Can you do this without a
    diploma? Unlikely!)

HS Graduation Requirements
  • Courses Required
  • English- 40 credits
  • World History- 10 credits
  • US History- 10 credits
  • Government/Economics- 5 credits each
  • Mathematics- 30 credits
  • Science- 20 credits (Life and Physical)
  • PE- 20 credits
  • Health- 5 credits
  • VPA and/or Applied Curriculum- 15 credits
  • Electives- 60 credits
  • Total credits required- 220
  • Must pass both sections of the CAHSEE

Will you be able to Make-Up Credits??
  • Summer School- Less classes being offered every
    year! Cant rely on getting classes you need in
    summer!
  • Adult School- Priority given to seniors, and even
    they get put on waiting lists!! This is night
    school on top of normal school day!
  • Valley Vista- do you really want to graduate
    without your friends? Valley Vista gets full
    too

    to improve your grades.
  • Share your thoughts with a partner

Strategies for Home
  • Consistent time and place for HW every day (know
    your peak times!)
  • Avoid distractions schedule in breaks
  • Use a planner daily! (write down assignments,
    test dates, labs, etc)
  • Prioritize!!
  • Use a 3-ring binder with dividers for each class
  • Keep balanced schedule (school, sports, chores,
    friends, etc.)

  • Tutorial Every day (except Wed) after 1st block
  • Tutorial Attendance Cards work off detention hrs
    by attending tutorial or after-school tutoring!!
  • English Tutoring Mondays 3-4 pm in Library
  • Math Tutoring Tues/Thurs 3-4 pm in Room 211
  • Weekly Progress Reports Guidance Office Thurs
    AM.
  • CSP Program work off detention hours and learn
    job/life skills!
  • Parent/Student Portal get PIN from Guid.
