Responsibilities/Activities

• Manage database structures in respect of
  Capacity, Performance and
• contingency.
• Overall responsibility for the PTV Live, Dev and
  Test databases
• Overall responsibility for the PTV Reporting
  Databases
• Work effectively in the Oracle environment in
  the installing, configuration,
• upgrade, administration, monitoring and
  maintenance of the database(s) and
• associated software products, in support of
  operational system(s).
• Work within a support team to build, install,
  configure and support project
• development environments
• Maintaining the Data Access Layer and
  Performance tuning of the databases
• Manage users of the PTV databases and their
  access and privileges
• Managing third party Oracle and SQL Server
  instances (e.g. Designer 2000)
• Design, spec, build and monitor entry level and
  workgroup Sun servers on
• Solaris 9/10 and Linux

• MandatoryStrong
• UNIX platforms skills Performance tuning,
  Scripting.
• In depth knowledge of Oracle architecture and
  database deployment.
• Detailed and practical experience of PL/SQL,
  procedures, packages.
• Practical and detailed experience of Oracle
  database design, construction, tuning,
  networking, backup/recovery, security.
• Practical and detailed knowledge of database
  back-up and recovery strategies especially RMAN.
• Have worked as a production DBA delivering
  mission critical databases.
• Have worked as a development DBA developing live
  applications.
• Been involved in the full project life-cycle of
  mission critical databases.
• Good communication and documentation skills
• Data Modelling Skills

• Desirable
• Internet/Intranet development
• Strong team player
• Oracle Designer 2000 or similar data modelling
  application.
• Clustered DB experience.
• Understand Tomcat /J2EE implementation.
• Understand and implement Iplanet/Apache
  HTTP/HTTPS configurations.
• A very good understanding of TCP/IP and network
  protocols.
• Understanding of Internet caching

Experience

• At least 4 years commercial ORACLE/UNIX
  experience, including a combination of the
  following
• DB Administration
• Data Modelling
• Warehousing
• Hardware knowledge Solaris based platforms

Measures
Reporting Relationships

• Maintenance of SLAs
• Delivery of Projects in a timely At least 3 years
  commercial

• Reports to Head of Infrastructure
