4AMAC Analytic Environment
Semantic analysis is the study of meaning,
structure, links and patterns of entities and
their temporal, logical or geospatial confluences.
N-dimensional analysis is the analysis of
multiple attributes (time, location, entities,
semantic values, etc.) concurrently in order to
determine relationships, locality, clustering
Geospatial analysis integrates spatial and other
kinds of information within a single
georeferenced system,
Temporal analysis is the examination of
enitities, relationships and their confluence
over time.

5Project ProteusOverview and Mission Statement
- ONI requires a capability to attack the Maritime
Information Domain subsequently conducting
advanced analysis - The aggregate corpus of information is enormous
in its size and complexity. - Current approximations characterize it at over
twenty separate databases, at multiple
classification levels, with over 15 terabytes
(TB) of information - It is currently assessed to be increasing several
TBs a month. - Project Proteus Goal.
- Develop an advanced analytic capability which can
process multi-TB quantities of information,
extract entities and relationships, then analyze
the geospatial, temporal and semantic confluences - Enable an analyst to establish determine and
derive causalities, correlations and eventually
predict the potentialities maritime entities and
their activities
Project Proteus will revolutionize maritime
domain analysis. It represents a quantum leap in
knowledge discovery and analysis. Analysts will
be able to correlate seemingly disparate separate
entities and relationships, identify networks of
interest, detect patterns, and eventually
anticipate adversary movements.

7Project ProteusArchitecture capabilities
- gt5 TB raw and pre-processed data storage
- Architecture capable of operating at gt5 Teraflops
- Entity extraction and triplet creation of
unstructured and structured data sources - Data refinery and advanced analysis suite capable
of complex query searching against entire corpus
of data in less than 3 minutes - Ability to ingest any new data source, performing
all extract, transform and load (ETL) functions
in less than 72 hours after identification - Data ingest rate greater than 10 GB per hour
- Data lineage and data pedigree tags for all
ingested information, extracted entities and
resultant analytic products - Expandable and scalable architecture able to be
deployed onsite at the NMIC - Capability deployed and achieve IOC no less than
120 days from start of project - Architecture able to be accredited and certified
as a DODIS production system within 180 days of
IOC.
Project Proteus will culminate in a dramatic
increase in timely, relevant and predictive
support to operational forces, the intelligence
community and decision makers.
