40The Changing KTIP Horizon
- Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA)
41What is the Teacher Performance Assessment?
- The Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA) is a
focused set of ten teaching tasks designed to
provide new teachers the opportunity to
demonstrate their effectiveness in analyzing and
improving student learning. - During the KTIP Pilot Project, we called the TPA
a Teacher Work Sample (TWS)
42How is KTIP TPA different from our current KTIP
model?
- The TPA will gradually REPLACE the KTIP portfolio
and PGP. - TPA evaluates a teacher on an additional
standard, leadership. - TPA committee members will each use a single IPR
all year long. - The new TPA IPR has scoring rubrics.
43Approved Timeline for TPA Implementation
- 2006-2007 Voluntary use of the TPA
- Materials refinement
- KTIP Committee training refinement
- 2007-2008 Voluntary use of the TPA
- January 2008 all new interns use TPA
- 2008-2009 all new interns use TPA
- Training for all who have not been trained with
the use of the TPA
44What do we mean voluntary TPA use?
- Principals and/or districts may opt to use the
TPA instead of the regular KTIP portfolio. - Those who opt to use the TPA, including pilot
project participants, must participate in TPA
training. - If you know you will be using the TPA this year,
please contact your regional coordinators to
alert them of your training needs.
45What should the District Coordinator know (and
share) about the TPA?
- All deadlines and committee responsibilities are
exactly the same. - All committee work will be submitted
electronically in IMS, just like regular KTIP.
(Standard X will not count against those who use
TPA) - Resource teacher payments are all handled through
the normal channels no one will be paid extra
for using the TPA. - At this time, there is no plan to collect the
TPAs.
46What kind of guidance can the district
coordinator provide?
- Read the entire TPA Handbook. Especially pages
5-12. - Start on the Professional Responsibilities tasks
(D, E, and F) early and wrap them up after the
second cycle meeting. - Begin the Instructional Unit Component DURING the
second cycle, so you can finish it before CATS
testing.
47What kind of guidance can the district
coordinator provide?
- Go over the format requirements on page 10. Tell
the intern not to feel limited by the templates,
but that the whole TPA (all three cycles) should
fit into a 1 binder. - Encourage the intern to include ONLY relevant
artifacts we dont want everything! - We will have digital copies of sample TPAs on the
EPSB website by the end of July.
48Please remember
- Though we have tested these materials in the
pilot project, they may still need to be changed
as we learn by using them. - The implementation decision is only one week old,
so we may have more information in the coming
weeks. Please be patient with ongoing
development in the next two years.
49 There is nothing new under the sun but there are
lots of old things we don't know. Ambrose

50KTIP Training
- Per Regulation 16 KAR 7010 Section 3(1)(a)
School districts shall maintain a pool of
resource teachers and principals who have
successfully completed the Kentucky Teacher
Internship Program Committee training in order to
assure eligibility for appointment to beginning
teacher committees.
51KTIP Training
- Three training options
- On-line REGULAR KTIP training
- Face-to-face REGULAR KTIP training
- Face-to-face TPA KTIP training
- Both face-to-face options begin with the on-line
KTIP Face-to-Face Training Homework Assignment
offered free through KyEducators.org. When
successful, participants receive an email
e-ticket which serves as an entry ticket to the
face-to-face training.
52Training Option Considerations
- Each regional coordinator has scheduled 1 or 2
TPA trainings, usually the last sessions on their
calendar. Priority for TPA training attendance
will be given to those who have a TPA intern this
year. - Districts can work with regional coordinators to
offer district-wide TPA training as PD, using PD
. (Using data to analyze student performance) - Those who train as TPA committee members will not
have to re-train before mandated implementation.
