OAKS Cognos Joins

• Purpose of using Cognos Joins
• To develop a single report that may require data
  from two or more different Operational Warehouse
  Reporting Tables.
• This should not be something that is done on a
  regular basis.

OAKS Cognos Join Key Points

• Primary direction for a table join is from left
  to right.
• ALL joins are 1-to-1 or 1-to-many by EMPLID
• If an individual has rows of data in a reporting
  table, they will be in Employee Information
• It is NOT necessarily true that an individual in
  Employee Information is in all reporting tables

• Number of rows returned when joining tables
  should not be less than the number of rows
  returned from the primary reporting table.
• No joins are permitted to the Employee Master or
  the Employee Names Reporting Tables.

• The Use Effective Dating (Enter Y or N) prompt
  is the same for ALL reporting tables EXCEPT for
  Employee Information.
• The Use Effective Dating for Employee
  Information (Enter Y or N) prompt is only for
