    security in favour of the poorest and the most
    vulnerable and contribute to achieving the first
    MDG

  • AFAAS, African Forum for Agricultural Advisory
    Services, 1.5m
  • Objective to support the start up programme
    of AFAAS in order to strengthen the development
    of ARD in Africa and to provide agricultural
    advisory services a voice at continental level.

    sustainable innovations aimed at increasing
    productivity and competitiveness of plantain

    under discussion
  • ICIPE (International centre of Insect Physiology
    and Ecology) 1.5m
  • Objective to support to ICIPE project "
    Validation and Initiation of Diffusion of
    Pro-poor and Poor Environment Tsetse Repellent
    technology towards eliminating a key constraint
    in livestock productivity among resource-limited
    pastoralist and agro pastoralists" (Kenya and
    Uganda).

  • PAEPARD II (Platform for African European
    Partnership on Agricultural Research for
    Development, Phase 2) 5.5m This project is a
    follow-up to PAERPARD I (supported under the 6th
    Research Framework Programme), which aims at an
    enhanced, more equitable and mutually beneficial
    collaboration of Africa and Europe on
    agricultural research for development with the
    aim of attaining the MDGs.
  • Southern African Development Community's (SADC)
    Multi-Country Agricultural Productivity Programme
    (MAPP) 8m Objective to support the MAPP,
    including the creation of a sub-regional research
    and development organisation. Conditional and
    under discussion.

Support to farmers organisations.The objectives
are
  • to strengthen FOs operational capacity,
    including skills in representation,
    accountability, knowledge management and
    networking at all levels.
  • to strengthen the role played by FOs in the
    articulation and implementation of policies in
    view of an improved of FOs participation in
    decision making processes
  • to empower FOs through capacity development, so
    as to influence the agricultural research and
    technology agenda, fostering greater farmer
    knowledge, control of funds, organizational power
    and institutional participation (e.g. in
    continental and regional organisations on
    agricultural research such as FARA, Conseil Ouest
    et Centre Africain pour la Recherche et le
    Développement Agricoles - CORAF, Association for
    Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern
    and Central Africa - ASARECA, etc.).

Support to CAADP
  • Strengthening the Comprehensive African
    Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP)
    institutions and processes
  • Objective objective of the project is to
    facilitate the implementation of CAADP at
    country, regional and continental levels,
    involving agricultural policy reviews and
    reforms, inclusive strategy development, higher
    levels of investments and expenditure, and
    improved public-private cooperation.
  • Amount 5m
  • Implementing body World Bank (Multi-donor Trust
    Fund)
