Title: Emergence of new reality Validity and Capital in Business

1
Emergence of new realityValidity and Capital
in Business
  • Emergence and new forms of capital and power
    ontological questions
  • Lennart Nörreklit, 2007

2
Validity
  • The question of validity is a question of the
soundness and strength of the concept of reality
    implied.
  • The concept of reality is different from the
    concept of World.
  • The distinction real-unreal relates to the
nature of the relation between actor and world.
  • Reality the functioning of this relationship
implies human beings as being able to participate
and act i. e. as actors.

3
Actor reality - world
4
Reality
  • The reality of being in the world as
    participating actor presupposes
  • A factual ground. Otherwise nothing is possible
    everything is just a dream.
  • Possibilities that are contain (integrated) in
the factual ground. Without possibilities an
    actor is dead.
  • Values that are contained in the range of
    possibilities. Possibilities are irrelevant
    without values.
  • Communicative meaning that expresses this
integration and thus promotes space for it in a
    communicative world.
  • This 4-foulded unity (integration) creates a
power of realization. Without it nothing real
    happens.

5
The four dimensions
6
Valid determinations
  • The explanation of a concept is valid, if and
only if it explains how this concept contributes
    to the construction of reality.
  • Only then can we understand the concept and why
we have it and need it.
  • The other methodical accepted forms of definition
    do not guarantee validity.

7
Will to power
  • Capital is power (Makt)
  • Power / makt is the ability to create / produce
    something.
  • The traditional concept of power in
industrialism, for instance, is however, power as
ability to control other people and thus produces
    the lack of power.
  • Makt/power is trust
  • Social forms of power change through change in
    that which people trust.
  • In the system based modernity of industrialism
trust was trust in power as suppression
oppression, hardness, strength and thus rust in
    the creation of the proletariat.
  • In globalization trust seems to be trust in
    power/makt as innovation, new-thinking, creative
    emergence.

8
Leadership als capital 1
  • Case The regional SN-Bank.
  • Goal To become a national bank chain.
  • Strategy
  • Not Buying new local banks
  • But Hiring convincing leaders who would like to
    have their own bank.
  • Radical decentralization of the bank chain.

9
Leadership as capital 2
  • Thus SN-bank recognized the existence of
leadership as relatively cheap available capital.
  • In addition they need access to knowledge and
creativity. The new leader is able to acces that.
  • Thus Business need three forms of capital
  • Leadership capital,
  • intellectual capital and
  • economic capital.

10
Capital
  • Resources Capital Reality
  • From the perspective of business Capital is a
resource that simply is available to business in
    the market.
  • (In contradistinction to for instance oil under
    the North Pole.)
  • I.e. the legal and the technical conditions are
    fulfilled.

11
Management and Deterministic Modernity
  • Systemic perspective
  • 1-dimensionality
  • Discipline, action control
  • People are work force or economy
  • The world of necessity is the world of
    impossibility
  • The world is nothing.

13
  • 3 slags kapital Videnskapital (intellektuel

14
Viden og indsigt facts og integration
  • Viden (intellektuel) kapital udtrykker tilegnede
facts. Kærnen i vidensbegrebet er sikkerheden,
    som den er i facts
  • Intellektuel kapital rækker imidlertid ud over
beskrivende opremsninger af data, der i sig selv
    er irrelevante for alt.
  • Vidensdybden er udtryk for integrationen i de
    således tilegnede facts. Professionalisme at
    kende facts muligheder til bunds.
  • Der er alle mulige former for viden teknisk i
produktion, menneskelig i handel, etc. Disse er
alle nødvendige for at skabe en værdiforskel, der
    driver en ny virkelighedsdannelse.

15
Værdi, kommunikation og ledelseskapital
  • Værdi angår drivet
  • Værdiforskellen er drivet i interaktion
  • Uden værdiforskel for køber og sælger ingen
    handel, ingen aftaler
  • Værdiforskellen udfolder sig om forskellige
former for værdi økonomisk værdi, teknisk
    nytteværdi og livsværdi.
  • Ledelseskapitalen organiserer værdidrivet ved
    hjælp af økonomisk kapital, hvorigennem
    videnskapitalen sættes i spil.
  • Kommunikationen er metoden. Værdiforskellen er
drivet. De åbne, intelligente facts er
    forudsæntningerne.

16
Dobbeltmodellen
  • Observation facts denne aktør-verden
    korrespondens skal integrere alt
  • også f.eks. refleksion mulighed,
  • følelse / indtryk værdi og
  • kommunikation/udtryk - mening

17
Causality
  • Physical causality contrary to final causality
  • Emergence is the creation of a new form of being
this implies a new form of identity and a new
form of being, that is realized through this form
    of identity.
  • Thus an emergent reality is constituted through
new types of final causality, that reproduce and
    vitalize themselves (reproductive circular system
of processes) in order to maintain the identity.

18
Emergence 1
  • The following are insuficient explanations of
    emergence
  • Dialectics as thesis antithesis synthesis
  • The steps of critical Realism Phenomenon, fact,
    reality
  • A step-less monism
  • Reductionism
  • Emergence of new reality is something different

19
Emergence 2
  • From one level of existence to an other through
    emergence
  • Emergence Not result of a quantitative movement
but as the result of a possibility that is
    demanded more and more
  • Not as evolution / the development of a gen not
    as genealogy

20
Emergence 3
  • Emergence is based on the condition that the
possibilities of complex units are not the same
    as those of their components.
  • All integrated reality is the result of a
    complexity of p0ossibilities, that combined
    constitute new possibilities.
  • I the human sphere of existence our creative way
of being as a being in need of a (loving)
relation to the world always searches for better,
more promising life forms, that realize our
    emerging possibilities.

21
Emergence and destruction
  • Development exists within a form of reality
    being is becoming.
  • Destruction is related to a form of existence, as
    is emergence.
  • An emergent way of being is influenced through
and influences super- and sub-forms of being
    (structures / systems).
  • Thus it may be destroyed in different ways.
