6So why do Purex make nail stations?
- Concerns of the salon owner
- That clients were deserting the salon
- The salon was covered in nail dust and smelled
of chemical fumes. - They had heard that their technicians and
clients might develop medical conditions because
they were breathing in dust and fumes. - Would they get sued by technicians if they
developed these conditions? - Would her best technicians leave her for another
salon? - Was she breaking the law?
- Would she get fined 1000s by the Health and
Safety Executive? - Her staff were always off sick. Why was this?
- Would she get complaints from her neighbours?
- Why wasnt the extraction table she had bought
working?

7So why do we make nail stations?
- So Purex looked into the matter and found
- Clients prefer clean, hygienic salons, not dirty
ones that smell of acrid chemicals. - Many unhappy technicians were leaving dirty,
smelly salons for better ones. - Many nail technicians have asthma or other
illnesses but did not know why. - Many were not aware that they were working with
materials which might put their health at risk. - The nail stations on sale in the market were not
adequate to protect peoples health. - The problem of dust and fumes was getting the
attention of clients and the newspapers (see
next slide)
