1) Architecture Working Group (AWG)
If virtual worlds are to become as ubiquitous as
e-mail and the Web (and we believe they will),
then like the Internet itself, virtual worlds
must be built upon open protocols. Linden Lab
is pioneering the development of open,
well-specified standards through the design and
implementation of its Second Life Grid
technologies. To reach these goals, the AWG is
refining the Second Life Grid architecture,
writing design documents and protocols, and doing
implementation testing. The group's work is
carried out in the public Architecture Working
Group wiki and on the SLdev listserve. Formal
meetings are are held 3-4 times per year, and
technical discussions happen in-world twice a
week at Zero Linden's office hours. Details

2) New Open Source Client (Snowglobe)
We have created a new version of the Second Life
client in a public repository where we will allow
direct committing from community members
alongside our own daily work. We have also
created a new build system to keep this version
continuously building when new submissions are
received, with new builds available to everyone.
We will also make this version available as a
download alongside the official SL client, once
we have it sufficiently stable. Additionally we
will aggressively manage the quality of
submissions to this new repository, working with
the community to develop appropriate ways of
testing, reviewing, and approving changes. Our
hope is that we can create a widely-used openly
developed version of the Second Life client which
is a compelling alternative for a broad set of
users, and contains enhancements and development
that then rapidly make their way back into the
mainstream Second Life version. Details

3) New LSL Communications (HTTP-In)
HTTP-In is the code name for a set of LSL
(Linden Scripting Language) scripting functions
and event changes that allow LSL scripts to
become miniature web servers.. At its heart this
is the long desired counterpart to llHTTPRequest.
While llHTTPRequest allows LSL scripts to fetch
data from external web servers, http_request
allows LSL scripts to respond to http requests
made by other servers - or even other LSL
scripts. Details http//tinyurl.com/lsktzd
