T-Bone 686
  • A powerpoint on team 686 Bovine Intervention
  • By Ian Dickerson

2
???Who is T-Bone???
  • T-Bone is Maryland team 686s 2007 bot a simple
box on wheels with an elbow-jointed arm and a
place for a robot to drive on top. The cool part
is, their arm can pull robots onto its chassis
ramp AND score up to the top of the rack!

3
  • Their system is fairly simple. five speed
controllers four for the wheels and one for the
arm. The ramps work off of pneumatics giving a
    small push.
  • An interesting note is the arm system
pneumatics. The pneumatics hook up to a solenoid
on the arm which splits the air into each claw,
allowing them to grab at the same time.
  • The way most grab systems work is having two
separate functions for each claw or javelin,
which can sometimes lead to electrical failure.
Having simultaneous movement keeps wiring and
    maintenance simple.

4
The Drive system
  • is a four-wheel drive system with lots of power.
They used dual motor transmissions, meaning two
motors working for one transmission. The drive is
nothing really special, but the wheels are big
and dont walk in place as much as normal four
wheel robots do with traction wheels.

5
The ramp system
  • uses two small legs where the robot can run on
top of the chassis, which is a little over a foot
high. By looking at the pictures, it would seem
the robot would run into T-bones arm and never
get up. The forearm (bottom right) has no limit
of movement, so it pulls up, claw aimed high,
while the base arm (bottom picture, top-rightish)
lowers itself as low as possible onto the little
barrier column (top picture). The result is a
folded arm with a clean access ramp.
  • The only fault in this is that the arm couldnt
be folded all the way. A little bit of the arm
pneumatics were able to be run into, which could
risk damage to the claw system.

6
T-bones game record
  • is a little impressive. It has an autonomous,
where it drives up using a camera to the rack and
put a keeper on the middle goal. During
competition, team 686 and T-bone made it through
to the top eight teams, but did not make it to
    the semi-finals.
  • This picture to the right show T-bone sitting on
top of team 973s crashed robot during the
Annapolis Regional. There was no explanation as
    of how it got there.
