2Welcome toForeman High School Library Please
enjoy yourself in our library. Ask us anything
we will do our best to answer your questions.We
strive to meet the needs of all of our users. We
have worked hard to create a well used,
appreciated, and essential department within
Foreman High School.The library offers
educational opportunities for upper classmen.
Offerings include senior project, Academic
Decathlon, and History Fair. These opportunities
are offered throughout the school year.
Juniors and seniors may take senior project
with Ms. Oddo. Senior project is a program where
students learn skills and receive training for
future employment in libraries. Academic
Decathlon is a team of nine students competing to
be the scholastic champions of Chicago Public
Schools. Students earn ¼ a credit per semester
if they enroll in the class. You can still be on
the team if you cant take the class. See Ms.
Oddo, Mrs. Shoffer, or Ms. Rao if you have any
questions. History fair is a competition open
to any student who is interested in Chicagos
history. Judging of projects is in March. More
information is available from Ms. Oddo.

- Checkout Procedures
- Any Foreman student may check out circulating
materials as long as he/she has no outstanding
fines with the library. A current ID must be
presented to check out materials. The ID serves
as the students library card. Materials will
not be checked out to students under another
persons ID. - Materials for use

- Flat bed scanner
- Black white Xerox machine
- Internet access

- No eating or drinking unless authorized by the
library staff

- Any staff member is allowed to check out
materials from the library. Materials are loaned
to teachers for an extended period depending on
the item. Please check due dates with the
librarian. - Resources for use by staff include
- Videos
- Professional journals
- Curriculum development materials
- (items that begin with call number PROF)
- Wireless internet access
- LCD projector and screen for Internet, DVD,
- VHS, and computerized presentations
- Flatbed scanner
- Just a gentle reminder

- Scheduling Time in the Library for Classroom Use
in Five Easy Steps - Check to see if the date is available in the red
binder at the front desk (time slots are
available on a first come first serve basis) - Write your last name in every period you want to
be in the library - Prior to the visit, notify the librarian of the
activity/assignment/materials you will be using - Prior to the visit, notify the librarian if this
lesson involves co-teaching or an orientation - SHOW UP
- Staff must schedule time in the library at least
two days before the planned visit and no more
than two weeks in advance. This policy must be
followed to ensure that equal access to the
library can be provided to all classes. If in
the event a scheduled visit must be cancelled,
please notify the librarian as soon as possible. - Please note that administration has the authority
to limit access to the library at any time. The
library staff apologizes in advance for any
inconvenience this causes, but asks that staff be
understanding that circumstances beyond our
control occur. Notification will be posted on
the library door the day of the closing.

- Foreman High School Library acquires and
maintains resources which are of high academic
merit and that support current curriculum.
Additional resources include some professional
and leisure materials to round out the
collection. Realia and non-print materials are
considered to be integral components to the
collection and are added as the yearly budget
allows. - The goals of the Foreman High School Library are
to - Create a safe, well organized, and modern
learning environment for its users - Encourage and nurture independent thinking
within the learning environment - Establish a reading culture among its users by
providing a variety of printed works and
materials - Provide equal access to technology and
information in all its forms - Weed materials that become outdated or unable
for use due to condition - Consider suggestions from staff members and
students

- Please see Mr. Scott Saffro in room 315 to
schedule room use. You can bring in CD-ROMS, as
each computer has two disc drives and a 3 ½ inch
floppy drive. This allows students to save work
that may not have been completed during the
visit. - TEACHERS MUST REMAIN IN THE ROOM WITH THEIR
CLASSES FOR THE DURATION OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL
