  • To develop effective health education assessment
    resources through a collaborative process, and to
    increase members capacity to align curriculum,
    instruction, and assessment to improve student
    health literacy through improved health education
    instruction.

HEAP Mission NCLB Professional Development
  • NCLB - Aligned with challenging state standards
    assessments
  • SCASS-HEAP assessments aligned with national
    standards (basis for state alignment)
  • NCLB - High quality, sustained, intensive
    classroom focused
  • SCASS-HEAP semi-annual meeting sessions provide
    members with examples/models of successful PD
    activities, and PD resources to be used to
    enhance quality of state trainings communication
    system to provide on-going PD

  • NCLB - Includes active learning one of the most
    effective active learning activities is examining
    and reviewing student work.
  • SCASS-HEAP SRT sessions include scoring student
    work to determine anchors so that members better
    understand the scoring process activities can be
    modeled in state PD efforts
  • NCLB - Regularly evaluated for their impact
  • SCASS-HEAP SRT meetings regularly evaluated
    through an action research model
  • SCASS-HEAP SRT session(s) on action research that
    can be employed by states to evaluate PD efforts
