4Methodology of Research
- A South-African Building Renaissance
5Research Hypothesis
Proper research and development can make earth
construction an acceptable and sustainable
alternative to conventional techniques (It can
even make earth construction a standard building
method. It will help the poorest of the poor to
acquire housing of a better quality)
6Methodology
- Desk research on causal relationships
- Sampling (selection of target communities)
- Acceptability Model
- Pre-intervention assessment
- Intervention (Workshops)
- Post-intervention assessment
- Conclusion
7Acceptability Model
- Criteria for target communities
- Comparison (i) Building with corrugated iron
sheets plastic (worse, but earth building is
just as cheap) (ii) Building with concrete
blocks (just as good, but earth building is
cheaper) - Desk research questionnaire data
- Transform to normality when needed
- Perform Principal Component Analysis to unveil
associations - Pinpoint causal relationships
- Predict acceptability, showing the best
interventions to increase acceptability
