Eco Council and Gardening Club
  • Our Eco-Council meet every half term to discuss
green issues around the school and put forward
    ideas to help the environment.
  • They work in partnership with the gardening club
who help make the school grounds a better place
by picking up litter and planting trees and
    shrubs around the grounds.
  • Click on the picture of the garden to start the
movie. You can also click the megaphone to hear a
sound bite from our Eco Representatives.

5
Paper
  • We try our best to recycle as much paper as
possible. We use both sides of a piece of paper
before throwing it in the BLUE bin. We take off
the sticky part of an envelope before putting it
    in the recycling.

6
Composting
  • We have three compost bins in our school grounds.
We put fruit and vegetable peelings in them and
empty the fruit caddy regularly. We then use the
compost to help grow our plants and flowers in.
  • Click on the picture to start the Composting
    Movie.

7
Growing Vegetables and Plants
  • Every junior class has a flowerbed full of
vegetables like beetroot, carrot, green beans and
    cucumber. We water them regularly.
  • Click on the picture to begin the Watering Movie.

8
Awards
  • Carr Head Primary School have earned several Eco
Awards including the Bronze and Silver and we are
aiming for the Green Flag Award which will mark
us as a top eco-friendly school.

9
Fundraising
  • We do a lot of fundraising for plants and
environmentally helpful things in our grounds.
One fundraiser we had was where everybody could
come dressed as a fairy, elf or mortal wearing
green and had to pay 1. We raised 180!

WOW!
10
Fundraising
  • We have received several grants from wildlife
companies such as The Green Partnerships Award.
We got 500 to help us towards wildlife friendly
items. We have events at fair's and discos to
raise money. Games such as How Many Pine Cones
    In The Tub.

WILDLIFE
11
Helping The Wildlife
  • In our school we have several bird boxes and
feeders because we believe that animals are just
as important as people and that we should help
them. We also have a wildlife garden as we
mentioned earlier on in the presentation. If you
would like to watch the Wildlife Garden film
again go back to the contents and select Growing
    Vegetables and Plants.

12
Education for a Greener Future
  • Year 5 did a Waste Audit in October 2007. The
amount of waste the school carried was
unbelievably high. In October this year the soon
to be Year Sixes will carry out a Waste Audit
again to discover the change in waste amount.
Every Wednesday we carry out Waste Watchers
Wednesday, which involves weighing our waste
packaging at lunchtime and trying to decrease the
    amount of waste each week.

13
Wildlife Trust
  • In the Autumn Term somebody from The Wildlife
Trust came on a visit to the school and gave us a
fun lesson on recycling. We learnt about all the
rubbish dumps around the country and why people
living nearby them will be internally affected by
    the decomposition of the waste.
