1Matriculation
2WHAT IS MATRICULATION?
- Matriculation is a process that enhances student
access to the California Community Colleges and
promotes and sustains the efforts of credit
students to be successful in their educational
endeavors. The goals of matriculation are to
ensure that all students complete their college
courses, persist to the next academic term, and
achieve their educational objectives. - It is not an event, IT IS A PROCESS THAT INVOLVES
THE ENTIRE COLLEGE.
3WHY DO THE COLLEGES NEED TO PROVIDE MATRICULATION?
- To ensure that equal educational opportunity for
all students - To provide supportive educational services
- To provide the means for students to set
realistic goals and fully understand the pathways
to their success and to ensure that students are
not excluded from appropriate services

15Is your College Matriculation Plan working for
your students?
- Some things to consider
- 1. Technology advancements
- 2. Distance Ed.
- 3. Matriculation cuts, no more site visits
- 4. The shift to SLOs and away from Matriculation
- 5. The influence of the four year university and
the focus on transfer

Schoolers, and other local influences - 7. FTES, ethics, and prioritizing resources
- 8. Cuts to staff development
- 9. Community colleges expected to do more, with
less - 10. Matriculation means collaboration amongst the

17Student Access Barriers to Occupational Programs
- 1. What do more students want after they have
chosen a major in VocEd - 1. Streamlined courses, support services
- Step by step planning
- Clear information that doesnt change
- The perception of minimal hurdles and hassle to
register in the classes they need - If I need help, can I get it?, how do I get it?
- 2. Timeline for goal completion
- 3. Cost---Financial Aid available-Students want
the bottom line - 4. Job Placement

20Discussion
- What is happening at your campus?
- Do you really understand how students end up on
your roster? - Are students prepared for your level of
curriculum? - Do you need a prerequisite or corequisite to
assist with your student success? - Is the Voced faculty voice represented at
matriculation committee meetings?
