Mnemonics

• Make up a short sentence of words that start with
  the first letters of the words to be memorised.
• This provides you with the first letter of the
  word to remember.

The LOCI Method

• Think of a familiar place, like your home.
• Close your eyes.
• Start at the front door.
• Place the first word on a familiar item, like the
  door mat.
• Go into the living room, place the next word on
  the sofa, the next on TV. And so on.
• The placing of the words on familiar items makes
  a link in your memory that helps you to remember
  the unfamiliar.

Image Chain

• Used to memorise a list of unconnected words.
• Make the words into a story with a series of
  images.
• This triggers the recall of other words in the
  series.

Rhymes

• Words with a pattern are easier to remember.
• 30 days hath September
• April, June and November
• etc, etc
• There are other techniques detailed in the
  handout, including a way of remembering dates.

Task

• You now have a short period of time to put the
  birth years of these composers in chronological
  order and memorise them. You will be tested.
