Health Promotion
  • Use Ottawa Charter and Te Tiriti o Waitangi as
    a foundation
  • Certificate of acheivement in Health promotion-
    Health Promotion Forum
  • Immunisation Mascot. Huggie Buggie born 2001
  • 2002 Development of 4 year old promotion pack
    and T shirts (free to GPs) for parents and
    children
  • Regular visits to EEC and Kohanga Reo with Huggie
    to remind parents and to put at children at ease
  • Vehicles- Huggie Buggie van and MMR sports car

  • Attendance at AP Show,Christmas Parade and

What other things are we doing to improve
coverage
  • Outreach Immunisation service for the Hard to
    reach started 16th February 2004
  • Collaborative venture between The Public Health
    Unit ( to Monitor and coordinate service) and
    Ngati Porou Hauora PHO and Turanganui PHO ( the
    service providers)
  • Increasing Influenza uptake 2004 (MoH Funding)
  • Three strategies
  • Hospital based campaign to increase influenza
    rates in staff
  • Intensive Media Campaign
  • General Practice IT support to help with recalls
  • Paediatric ward do opportunistic vaccination on
    children overdue for immunisation prior to them
    leaving the ward

Summary
  • Improve- Improved awareness, developed better
    resources and more training
    opportunities
  • Coverage- Unknown.Iinformal surveys would
    indicate that immunisation rates have improved
    from the low 70s to the high 80s. Looking
    forward to NIR
  • Dynamic- Huggie buggie is an extremely dynamic
    character and is well loved by the community
  • Activities- Lots happening. Always something to
    be involved with.
  • PLUS ITS HEAPS OF FUN!
